I am trying so hard to like this but it's just... not catching. And I feel really bad about that. They just seem so bland, though...

Without going into details, basically every character develops into a total subversion of their immediately-apparent archetype. It's actually rather well done. The music gets much better, too.

I swear I got creeped out by the thumbnail. It looked like a cute girl's face on a muscular man's body.

That's true about Marginal #4, too, though. Also, I guess, they didn't really strike me as any archetypes, just as... bland. Like, sports-anime type characters. I think the reason I like Marginal #4 is that they don't seem like normal modern people, if that makes sense. Like, they feel more similar to the gods from Kamigami no Asobi than to other modern-setting shows. (Not just magi4, all nine of them, especially Shy). I don't really like normal modern-setting characters... Anime smile;

I'm going to watch it and I hope I end up liking it, though. I like SolidS in TsukiPro a lot more than I thought I would (Growth are still the best, though <3)

Also, I've heard more of their music... well, Trigger's album, at least... they sound like a less interesting version of Lagrange Point.

What songs in particular would you recommend from this series as, like, not typical idol things?

I'm so excited! I wonder how many songs they'll have performed from the game. ^^
The 3d models in this are way better than what i7 started with so I can't wait to see a new version of Leopard Eyes.

While I can't vouch for idol-ish or not, "Good Night Awesome" and "The Funky Universe" by IDOLiSH7, "Leopard Eyes" by Trigger, and while Re:vale won't be in the anime, pretty much anything they've done is also worth a listen. ("Dis-one" made me a fan for life, though in-universe it's technically not their song.)

17 episodes eh, I wonder if they'll cover Re:Vale's intro?
I'm glad it followed the original storyline from the game version.
As for the romance, there is none actually. Though I wonder if the anime will change that since spoiler[ Gaku(TRIGGER)and Tsumugi seems to have that obvious canon pairing in the game.]
