It´s gonna be rubbish regardless who they get if Avi Arad is still actively producing the film. Sigh. Kong: Skull Island is surprisingly one of the best films of 2017 and undeniably a step up from the last US Bore-zilla.

Pretty sure it was 1998 (http://ign.com/articles/1998/12/25/the-best-games-of-1998)

Jurassic World was fun despite some flaws and Kong: Skull Island was excellent so not that bad a choice. I've heard people say Captain America: Winter Soldier felt very MGS-like (I've only played some of the first game so I wouldn't know) so a skilled director/writer/cast could pull it off.

Both Jurassic World and Kong Skull Island are rather “meh”; both have interesting premises but the former has poor characters while the latter is the definition of style over substance.

I’ve heard Kojima has wanted to make a Metal Gear movie for a long time. But of course, with everything involving him and Konami...

Just don't because Konami is Konami and Konami is the worst.

Thank you for pointing that out. We've corrected the year in the article.

I'd have more faith in this project if they began by adapting the first MSX Metal Gear game rather than jumping straight to Metal Gear Solid.

Given how complex Solid is, and how sparse the plots of the MSX games are, naturally, products of their time; a lot of exposition from Solid could've cleverly been moved and introduced into hypothetical MSX adaptation.

They could've started with Metal Gear as the framework for the first film. Then adapted Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake as a sequel. And they could've fleshed out the relationships between Solid Snake, Big Boss, Frank Yeager, Colonel Campbell and the FOXHOUND organization in those 2 films. They could've even moved other details regarding Ocelot, Otacon and Sniper Wolf in there too if they played around wisely by perhaps introducing them into the 2nd film.

Then end the trilogy on a high note with the 3rd film being an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. That way there'd be time to flesh out Liquid Snake, and the supporting cast of Foxhound.

But, nope, that'd be the smart thing to do, and could've begun with a more modest budget by adapting the first title and focusing on the action and characters, then increase the budget and scope with each subsequent film until they got to Solid.

So I'm really worried that this film will be a convoluted mess if they instead try to pack the MSX title stories and character set-ups into this one by adapting Solid first. Bad idea...

Konami stopped the italian fan-made movie trilogy(MGS Philantrophy),only the first film came out.The official one better be very good to make up for it.

I've never seen the point in a Metal Gear movie. Stealth is the primary gameplay mechanic, and that doesn't exactly translate well to an audience that is simply watching. It's fun to play, but not necessarily to watch.

Well the film would obviously play out like any normal action movie where a guy who has the odds stacked against him has to sneak his way around. See - Die Hard, The Raid, Dredd etc. It's extremely common.

It's not as though they're literally going to film Snake waiting in a corner for a whole 5 minutes.
