To be brutal, I find this to be the most disappointing thing to ever happen in the history of Precure. Furthermore, I find it to be disgusting as well. This entry has J U S T written all over it. I hope this one plummets really hard just because of him.

Then again, I am really REALLY praying that this "boy" will be revealed to be a girl soon. Perhaps Toei is hiding that trick up their sleeve.

There is no confirmation that he's actually a Precure; he could very well just be the equivalent of Tuxedo Mask who, while he has powers and position similar to a Sailor, technically isn't one.

Nothing wrong, it is no secret plenty of boys watch Precure, even if bullying makes many of the younger male magical girl watchers stay quiet...

How is it disgusting? Magical boys have been a thing for a while now. There's nothing wrong with them at all. You immature hardcore fans are so extreme and hard to please.

But he'd still be a magical boy, even if he isn't technically a Precure.

I'm a bit puzzled at this sort of response. Why does it disgust and disappoint you? I doubt that unlike what was written at the end of this piece the show is suddenly going to start targeting boys as an audience.

EDIT: Just to be clear I'm not hating on you or anything, I'm just interested as to why Precure fans would feel this way.

He's not a Precure.
He's listed on the fairy page on the website and they don't call him a Precure anywhere.
It's just fans that are calling him a Precure (in the very Otakomu link you used as a source for this article).

Don't just report on random tweets as fact.

If this is news worthy then why didn't you report on Akira and Yuakri being a confirmed couple?
There's stage events and even staff interviews that confirm their relationship.
Oh right, Otakomu and Yaraon didn't make articles about that.

I'm sorry if my attitude comes off as bad but you're spreading misinformation deliberately.

Lies. Prince Kanata was the first male Cure. Anime hyper

EDIT: I'm joking. Please don't actually correct me.

Wow. People get so salty at the idea of a male Precure.

There is no mention of him being a male Precure, so why are you spreading this misinformation? To give the guy some attention just so fans can draw >fanarts and >shippings of him?

Yeah, talk about double standards. ANN loves BL/yaoi so much, it rarely brings up GL/yuri news. Precure is known for yuri subtext between Cures and sometimes with other girls. Honestly, that is the one thing I like about the series and not just because I am a yuri fan. I do not know why this site has not made an article about yuri in PG shows like Precure and Sailor Moon. Or at the least the 1st ever yuri couple in Precure that you mentioned.

Outside of a scenario that I can't imagine right now, News and Interest doesn't really report on fictional relationship developments in a show. The only time I can imagine recently is when Ash finally got his first kiss in Pokemon but I can't think of anything before that. PreCure getting its first yuri relationship wasn't reported, despite the fact that I know about because I follow you on Twitter (lol), has more to do with the show's popularity among English speakers than neglect of yuri couples wholesale. Like, I'm all about great yuri couples personally, but I've gotta make editorial choices based on time constraints and available staff.

I'm trying to branch this section out, which is also why you see way more about otome games here now when they were pretty poorly represented before. I'd like to do more about PreCure, but ideally discussion about relationship developments would go somewhere like episode reviews which again, doesn't happen for this series because it's still not legally streaming anywhere.

I don't think there's any evidence to actually support this. News reports yuri and yaoi manga equally based on what's licensed. I don't think Interest focuses on yaoi any more than it does yuri, both being less than more mainstream titles.

Those are some very good points!
Those comments by me was just me finding an excuse to vent about that subject.

My real concern is that this article is being reported as news when in fact there's been no mention from official sources that Pikario is now a male Cure.
It's just a select few couple of fans going "oh look a male Cure".

There being no mention from official sources aside, Pikario didn't receive a transformation device, animal aesthetic or a transformation sequence,
He's just "purified", the same way Bibury was purified (note the change of hair colour).

Oh, quit whining already. Why is it when people watch a female-targeted anime, they automatically thinks that girls watch it because the main cast is all-female? Just because a boy is being added into a magical girl anime doesn’t mean that the demographic is gonna change. You’re just basically bitching about it being a bad thing as if the world’s gonna end. Get real.
Also, the Pretty Cure franchise has been running for more than ten years now and they’re basically just yuri-baiting people at this point. The writers have been doing that old trick for ages to get people to like a female pair, only to not make it canon in the end. And the fact that the franchise is geared toward little girls doesn’t give you the reason to whine about a fictional male character being included into an all-female cast. If you’re worried about the show turning into a harem anime, all I can say is that we nor anyone else would know for sure. It all depends on how the writers would deal with the character in the future.
P.S “boy turns out to be a female character in disguise”?
Yeah, not gonna happen. Rolling Eyes

Nobody said anything about a disguise, but KiraKira has already done exactly this with Akira.

Also the official confirmation of the yuri relationship is news to me. I'd appreciate a link.
