It's not streaming on Crunchyroll, it's streaming on Anime Strike.

^^I was going to say the same thing. As much as it hurts the NA anime community, it seems the divide between Sentai and CR is too wide.

I was a big fan of Himouto's first season and I'm really liking the second season, too. I agree with James that we are seeing development in Umaru's character, which is nice. However, I love her bratty side, too. I'm hoping we see more of Taihei's female boss who went to school with both he and Bomber. The first season made clear that she has the hots for Taihei ... I hope we see some development there.

I'm watching it on HiDive myself.

That's good to know. HiDive seems way more reliable in releasing episodes of a show on the day and time they say they will than AP does for its Canadian customers.

eta: are you sure you not just talking about the first season of Himouto? I just checked HiDive and the second season does not appear to be simulcasting there. The only fall season premiere shows I see on HiDive are Hozuki's Coolheadedness 2 and Dynamic Chord.

What makes the Amazon Strike thing such bullshit is that it's streaming on HiDive everywhere but the US and possibly Canada. Basically, Amazon Strike and their bullshit service secured the rights to the series, forcing Americans to pay for both Prime and Strike to watch all these Sentai series, but everywhere else in the world can watch it for free on HiDive.

Ah, that explains it. Mavado is a HiDive subscriber who doesn't live in the US or Canada.

Last time I checked, HiDive requires a paying subscription to their simulcasts, OVAs, "exclusives" such as LotGH, and most of their dubs, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, you can get some free content on HiDive in Canada but not a lot of it.

To my pleasant surprise, this series is being streamed by HiDive over here as well. I was able to access the first episode freely without any proxy skulduggery, as is the usually the case with Crunchyroll and its kind.

Personally I never really care about the two face nature of Umaru, if I had to explain the show to someone I probably wouldn't even mention it and I don't think the show spend that much time on it. What I liked was just how much fun Umaru seemed to have at all time, its so refreshing from the usual moody protagonist. She knew what she wanted to do at all time and would do just that.

It's nice seeing Umaru evolve, even if it technically undermines the premise. This new version of her's less laugh-out-loud, but still more enjoyable in a way.
Quote:
This skit also highlighted one of the most mystifying aspects of Umaru's existence, which is the nature of her “transformation” into Komaru. Multiple scenes have demonstrated that Umaru remains a normal-sized teenager when she dons her orange hood, but gags like the ones in this scene imply that she literally transforms into a pint-sized child version of herself. I know that questioning the physics of Umaru's chibi-fication is a fool's errand, but I can't help but view this scene in a very different context when I think of Takeshi lifting a fully grown high schooler in his arms to grab at a hot pot.
The second OVA pretty much seals this as a literal transformation. Taihei calls it out when she decides to eat one day in regular form and spoiler[she even actively considers chibi-fying herself in front of her friends as part of a confession about the three faces of Umaru. Said confession is ultimately cancelled, of course].

quoting from the episode 3 review:

Quote:
We're three weeks into the season, and I remain absolutely baffled as to how Himouto! Umaru-chan managed to get so gosh-darned cute.

Oh, James, James, James... you did well to resist Himouto!'s charms for an entire season, but the sustained cuteness assault was too much for you to bear. You have - inevitably - buckled under the adorability that is Himouto! I am gratified to see you are taking your preordained conversion in stride. Wink
