I can understand the hype around it, so I get why plenty of people (including myself) went out to see it. But I guarantee the majority would've been hugely disappointed.
It was horribly conceived unfortunately. Truly awful.

Was it a problem with certain characterisations, or were there deeper, more irrevocable problems with the writing? This film has been heavily promoted where I live, and curiosity can kill...

Watched this movie on the plane. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I don't know... It just never really pulled me in. I actually had a hard time remembering that this was one of the only two movies I had watched on the plane!

The writing and the animation (probably the most surprising aspect for me) were real let downs. The whole film felt like it was a series of build-ups to a rewarding or surprising crescendo but none of the attempts ever landed. As for the characters, unfortunately I couldn't have cared less for any of them.

On the upside, Kenshi Yonezu and DAOKO's song at the end of the film is worth hanging around for. My favourite part of the movie, in fact!
