I've seen evangelion(finally) and yes its great up to around episode 20 or so...but why so much hype for it? RahXephon...mutter...
They should go for someone unique to it, someone who is happy, free of past life problems and not either really smart or really stupid, someone unassuming enough so that you wouldn't have noticed them in the other scenes when they are in school...and just use one of their animations from the schools scenes themselves. but cos this is Eva they need to be suffering so let them get crippled by one of the mecha and then be forced into piloting one as they just so happen to be special enough for it...there you go they despise the machines and are crippled but have the talent and raw amility to use it well, and hey this is the first time that person has ever excelled at something...they suffered through mediocrity and their only way of being superior is by embracing the thing that destroyed their life. |

As long as there are games like Super Robot Taisen and people making doujinshi of the series, I doubt Evangelion will die... Not any time soon. However, despite Gainax milking out so much profits from whatever, I find this quite interesting how they're asking the fanbase for ideas. I mean, if you were a fan, wouldn't you be thrilled about this type of opportunity? To make a character for one fo your favorite series? It's like an otaku's dream!

it's all in the timing. The same thing can be same for Barbie, Gi Joe, and Hot Wheels. Are they special...not really. What about old skool Star Trek...Can it compare to today's standards of CGI enemas? Then again, I Love Lucy really is in nowhere half as funny as Family Guy. But If you had watched Eva back in the days of good ol fashioned hand drawn cels, before the Internet, before there was a zillion anime series of it's genre then you might understand. Evangelion was (and still is) different and quite special. It doesnt matter if it measures up to today's style of "otaku" popularity. It practically rewrote the anime genre, and many elements from Eva are felt within much anime today. Long live Evangelion and it's neverending string of strange merchandise! |

I wouldn't go that far. They're just different types of funny.
Very true. Hell, there was a pretty prolonged period of time where like half the anime series out were Eva knockoffs. |
