There r so many virtual youtubers now, i wouldn't doubt that this life-sized miku could hit popularity.

I'd love to see MMD Tda Miku as youtuber, she's created by the same artist of Kizuna Ai after all. Miku being a youtuber is unlikely, the same reason why there isn't an anime based on Miku/vocaloid.

Miku's official Youtube channel is barely 480,000, so I don't think her popularity is enough that it will get a massive boost from a robot version. Though it gives insight to the future Virtual Idols having a physical form.
For now, it does drive the development of robotics and artificial intelligence. Just hope we don't end up making Miku the Destructor and being the end of humanity.

Upon watching the third video, I'm a bit impressed and a bit creeped out at the same time as to the extent someone is going through to live out his fantasies. (Well, that's the impression I got anyway.)
But hey, if he's always wanted to be Miku, what's going to stop him? (Besides his budget, at least.)
Yeah, I was thinking that it's going to be a long time until they can get this thing out of that valley, especially because they're far from complete in replicating the human's movements.
There have been manga, however...not that they're that good.
Well, it IS a robotics show, not an otaku show, and I'm sure that motion capture robots are not exactly a cutting edge technology or application the attendees have come to see. When I was younger, I went to a few robotics shows, as my father was an electrical engineer and he liked seeing what other people had made on that front. There'd always be a few exhibitors showcasing something based on what they're a fan of, which would get about as much attention as anything else. I did hear someone laugh, but I don't know if it was from the Miku robot or something else nearby. |

It could be the next YT sensation, but they could improve on the design in the future. Looks ugly.

Yeah, I'd agree. But to be fair, he's a roboticist first, 3-D artist 2nd (or less). Professional-grade animatronics are a team effort between roboticists, artists, and a bunch of other talents. |

With virtual idols like Ai Kizuna already taking a huge slice of the popularity pie, I think Robot Miku's chance of reaching celebrity levels of fame are slim. However, I could see her garnering a positive reception from robot enthusiasts.
