I think it should be noted that bitcoin and "cryptocurrency" (ugh that's such a horrible misnomer, but I guess it's a thing now) are a HUGE fad in Japan, probably moreso than any other country in the world.

If you think the hype was huge in the west, here in Japan it's at stupid levels, and it's no wonder companies are trying to capitalize on it while they still can.

I agree. I thought it was just a phase that people are going through but it's actually extremely popular. I am worried through because cryptocurrency changes over time whether it increases and decreases. But, we'll see...

Blockchain technology has been around for more than a decade. I think it's safe to say that, on the whole, it's more than just a fad. What IS a fad, however, are these ICOs popping up. This one in particular looks completely pointless beyond being the "in" thing now.

Society never learns. The lessons on he S&L, junk bonds, the dot com bubble, the housing market... Human greed to get rich quick always ends up with way too many losers with only a few winners. For every one person who gets rich of these scams, hundreds of retail customers will lose... a lot. Crypto block chain tech (example, BitCoin) was NEVER intended for retail customers. In fact, it was never meant for commercial customers for that matter.

Eventually, crypto is going to be so overly regulated to protect the speculating retail consumer that it will utter defeat the intended purpose of crypto to begin with. Luckily 90% of everything using the term "crypto" and much of the 'blockchain" verbiage is used as a generic catchall phrase gone viral.

Oh I agree the math behind it is serious. But in Japan I can only describe it as a "fad". The corporations, media, and everything is treating it like a hot new toy and the number of people who actually understand what it is are few and far between.
It's getting segments on the morning shows and billboards for bitcoin shops...

The company cited problems with the anime and game industry's production committee system for funding works. Creative Frontier stated that developers and studios typically have weak positions and earn small profits compared to the major investors who make up the production committees.
Well, let's see if all the anti-industry phony labor rights crusaders put their money where their mouths are this time. Not gonna hold my breath, though.
