And the dumpster fire returns for more subpar action, half assed world building, and hatred of the thing in the title, all of which will be ignored as people argue over which non canon gay couple is the most pure and why you’re a bigot for not shipping it.

Dumpster fire... lol

This started pretty strong.. and as of the last 2 seasons kind of crapped out. I don't think this series in total is all that bad.. but it's not great either. I will watch season 5 but if it keeps the direction it is taking this is probably it for me.

I never seen the original Voltron but I did watched the Japanese version King of Beast GoLion on Crunchyroll and I love it and I see why people loved Voltron back in the 1980's. I have a question everyone is this show worth watching special for those who enjoyed the GoLion version?

Most people consider GoLion a subpar knockoff of shows like Voltes V and Daimos, and the villains are the Gamilians from Yamato minus anything interesting. (Even the character designs are ripped off. Lance looks identical to Kai Shiden from the original Gundam).

It’s also apparent the writers of new the show HATE giant robots. Utterly despise them. They do everything to avoid showing them and try to make it a third rate space opera that’s “woke” when it’s just boring.

I never completed GoLion and my last attempt was sometime in the mid 90s. As for Voltron (84) I view it in a nostalgic light.. however for those that have gone back and watched it as adults... it's... not that good.

The Netflix remake on many levels is much stronger then the original.. However I am not 6 years old like I was in 1984 and I see many faults in it.

So I disagree that the Netflix Voltron is a Dumpster fire.. of the many Voltron spin-offs in the past Voltron 3D probably deserves that title more..

I would say no. It's based on the cartoonish, watered down American dub, not the original. It also seems to avoid using the robots for some reason.

Ok, so what did you expect out of this series that is absent from it? You only talk about the mechas, but not about everything else. To me, you are like the many Archie Comics fans who hate Riverdale for being CW teen drama and dark and brooding instead of being like the comics. In both cases, we´re talking about "having different expectations" instead of the shows doing a bad job. That´s the processof adaptation, you have to do something different from the source material.

If you don´t like Voltron, it´s trash to you, not everyone. And don´t think you´re winning your case with Star Driver(a series and movie best left forgotten), Knights and Magic(yet another forgettable isekai series whose only distinction is having mechas) and Darling in the Frranxx(better than the other two, but the mechas are the least discussed aspect of the show at least here, and it seems like the less important aspecto of the show so far).

Do you just hate good things? Every time I see you, it's always to diss something that's popular.

Can you give examples?

I'm interested in the show because I've heard good things, and I don't mind if there's not much focus on the robot itself. I just wish there was a home video release since I can't really afford Netflix.

Ok, for what it is is it good show after all I'm fan of the Avatar series and I'm interested in watching in the future. Also it would be interesting to see Toei make a Japanese dub of Voltron: Legendary Defender as the title King of Beast GoLion or something like that.

I hate this. This isn’t good. So, no, I don’t hate good things. (Riverdale is fine, BTW. All the CW shows tend to tackle their own little niches and white it liberally uses Twin Peaks as influence, it’s pretty well done. The characters themselves have always been very malleable and easy to fit into various stories).

Besides, I’m more than complimentary of a lot of Netflix’s animated output. They should have had the people animated Castlevania do this.

But hey, if you like bland, one dimensional characters, unfunny comedy that makes the bottom of the barrel feel like Curb Your Enthusiasm, development that snaps like a rubber band akin to 80’s syndicated shows, and a complete lack of the robot, topped with the cherry of a fandom so toxic they literally tried to blackmail the studio over a ship, then by all means, this is your ticket.

Edit - Also the fact that and isekai show like Knights and Magic is comparable to Voltron says more about the faults of the latter than any great praise of the former.

Besides the apparent lack of mecha action, isn't that what the original Voltron was like? The original Voltron was hardly some great masterpiece itself. Most shows have awful fandoms. If you can't separate a show from it's fandom, there's not a lot of shows left for you to watfch.

Ok

1. They are not 1-dimensional.
2. The comedy is hilarious. (Kinda died when Lance explained milking a cow)
3. Not even sure I understand what you mean by development "snapping" but the paladins have had pretty wonderful development I think. Just wish it was more even.
4. The robots are in this plenty and yet I am glad they they are willing to do other things from time to time. Space battles, space magic and space spy-stuff is just as cool.
5. Yeah, anyone who thinks that shit is reflective of the fandom at large is not worth taking seriously.

In that case, you'll probably like it then. The show has far more in common with Avatar than GoLion. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the team wanted to make another Avatar, but Korra's low ratings and zero toys held investors back. The compromise was them writing for a series with guaranteed toys they could market.
