Even though this game does not appeal to me, I feel sorry for the fans in Germany who have to go through this. Plus the fact this company was okay with giving the first game a rating, but are unwilling to not rate the second game seems hypocritical in a way. My guess could be due to a different management handling the rating system, but even so it does not feel right. It feels shady.

1st game wasn't localized only Double Peace. It is a sequel to the original game for Xbox 360 and PS3 but for some reason they didn't call it 2. I guess they felt that it was more of just a continuation of the 1st game where the Angel from the 1st game is now on the sidelines of just being a student at the school and that Double Peace focuses more on the Angel who replaced her rather than the original. But yeah it does make you wonder how much more naughtier Gal Gun 2 is. |

Never played the first, not really my thing.. but I find this hypocritical considering all the other things going on in Europe right now.. just saying. |

It's saddening that German fans of Gal*Gun are unable to enjoy this title thanks to the people in power that want to ban certain games simply because they don't like their content. Hopefully there's a way for them to buy Gal*Gun 2 through import.

The USK has simply started being harsher on sexualized depictions of minors or implied minors in games, most likely the reason for the decision, at least that was the case for the latest such decisions regarding naughty japanese games.
It should be noted though, that not receiving a rating is not a ban nor is it illegal to own, buy or sell, it only is automatically treated as a 18+ game. The USK is technically a private organization ( GmbH), although it cooperates with and over time was integrated into state and law. It is true that most shops do not sell those games, as they can be held liable for selling games that get bans later on if they did not receive a rating prior, but they could and some do, even if not receiving a rating might come pretty close in consequences to a ban for a lot of developers. A game that did not receive a rating can still be banned or indexed via court procedure later on though. The likelihood of that happening to this game is fairly low, because people simply will not care, assuming court would even judge it banworthy. Virtue signalling intensifies. I almost made a joke about Germany not being known for free speech but the sad truth is that the United States is hardly any better when so many college students have a negative view of free speech. The natural state of government is censorship and they are just slightly ahead of the curve.

This should be mentioned in the article. But still, I'm really surprised because Gal Gun Double Peace got an USK 16 rating. This is plain censorship, I'm ashamed that from time to time we still live in the middle ages... |

Good riddance. Now we just need PEGI to refuse to rate it, and ESRB to give it an AO and it won't be sold any where in the west!

Updated laws regarding virtual sexual depiction of minor-looking characters seem to lead to the recent decision and the organisation would face consequences if they would approve a rating.
Same laws led to the cancellation of the third episode of My Girlfriend is Shobitch from official german stream hosts months ago which contents dirty, ambiguous jokes in the presence of minor characters, initiated due to the decision by the FSK that classified this episode's content as liable to corrupt the young. In this case it is not quite correct to say that it was the free decision of the host even if they stated it themselves, but since they would risk consequences concerning the criminal law, the had no choice to do so. Same goes for the USK. |

It's true that when a game in Germany doesn't get a classification, it's not automatically banned. The reason why it can't be released, though, is that Sony's guidelines prevents a game without a classification to be released on the PS4.
