Kind of a bummer that only four of these are licensed for an English release, but maybe it just goes to show how much manga there really is in Japan.

Yeah I find it really interesting how few of these have been licensed. Are they mainly newer titles that just haven't had enough time to "prove" themselves enough for an international market? Representation of how little manga actually makes it overseas? Or are these "hidden gems" for Japanese readers too?

Cool. Been consuming a lot of shoujo manga lately. I'll pop over to bookwalker to check out those that's not available in English.

I think there is just so many stuff that is out there in Japan that it's a given some gems won't get translated officially. But to me that is what makes searching for these stuff so interesting. Since I consume manga in both Japanese and English (and my native language)

My favorite manga right now is technically seinen, but for the most part reads like a shoujo parody that is also of the shoujo genre, and has been licensed to start release in March. It's called Kaguya-sama wants to be confessed to. I believe the American title is Love is War. Think like L's and Light's scheming in Death Note, but applied to characters in stereotypical shoujo situations. Hilarious.

Other licensed shoujo on my shelf:

Oresama Teacher (same author as Nozaki kun)
Kimi ni Todoke
My Love Story
Honey So Sweet
High School Debut (same author as My Love Story)
Library Wars
Skip Beat
Kamisama Kiss

Agreed. There are quite a few listed that I'd like to be able to check out.

But, even from the ones that are licensed, the ones I'm interest in are digital only. Hopefully that changes.

This doesn’t sound like shoujo manga at all Laughing[/quote]

Namete, Kajitte, Tokidoki Medete by Shin Yumachi (Shogakukan) Haru is bullied by her boyfriend Seishirō. Honestly, Seishirō isn't even really her boyfriend, she just accidentally gave him a love letter meant for someone else, but he refuses to return it and claims that Haruhi is his girlfriend now. He follows her at school, takes her lunch, and insists on physical affection, something that continues even when Haru goes home because he lives with her, too.

This is easily one of the creepiest descriptions for a shojo manga I've ever read. The accompanying picture of the cover (the one where the guy is pulling the girl's ribbon off from behind) is equally disturbing.

Otherwise, I'd love to see more of these series--especially the fantasy and/or time-travel ones--licensed in English!

Oh, the woes of being an anime/manga fan that doesn't speak Japanese. But on the bright side, I have some new titles to suggest to companies like Seven Seas in their monthl surveys. Razz

Someone needs to make a list of 32 licensed shojo mangas worth reading. I can think of a handful (Yona of the Dawn, Fruits Basket, Sailor Moon, Skip Beat, etc.) but not sure I can quite make it to 32, haha.

I've actually read a bit of Sabaku no Harem, and what I read I really enjoyed. It's like a much, much tamer version of Red River, minus the time travel. It's a pretty breezy read, in my opinion.

Now what I really wanna' see is Cold Game and Seven Knights, though Kami-sama no Ekohiiki kind of breaks my heart a little, though from it's very brief description, doesn't sound like it's all that interested in tackling incompatible orientations. ^^;

Can I just say, that these editors have amazing tastes? Laughing

Or at least, tastes that align with mine? Granted, I find some of these shoujo manga yucky but usually in Kono Manga ga Sugoi or in manga awards like Kodansha manga awards, the shoujo section is usually as meh as meh can be.

This list though, is golden. Tendou-ke Monogatari, Called Game, Kimi to Wonderland. Namidame to Serenade etc....just, these are all awesome.

More of these lists from shoujo editors, please! Laughing

Glad you guys like the list. My hope is that if these recommendations interest you, you'll remember them next time Vertical/Seven Seas/any other English publisher does a poll to gauge interest. Write down the titles that you liked and let them know!

That's probably because the final volume was released in Japan in August 2016 (it was released in English this past October).
This list just shows how frustratingly few shojo manga get licensed for English releases, especially fantasy and scifi titles. Even the vampire title isn't licensed! (Not that it looks like a particularly good vampire shojo, but still!)

If anyone from any English manga companies is reading, I totally want all the ones that involve female generals, empresses, and anything else with political machinations, and fantasy and/or scifi elements.

Sounds like hentai. Or *maybe* josei!
