Not to mention that so many professed skating mega fans complained YOI wasn’t being realistic, especially by having the skaters put four quads into their program. And here we have Nathan Chen doing six.

if we have to equate god yuzuru to a yoi skater, it should be either victor or the russian boy
yuri katsuki is a loser with mediocre skills

real life > anime always

hope we get an anime that focuses entirely on the sport someday instead of some slice of life romantic drama with a sprinkle of sports

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but do you actually do sports? Did you do any sports while in high school? Because I bet if your life got turned into anime it would be “some slice of life romantic drama with a sprinkle of sports”

We had that. It was called baby steps. Next time something good comes around, consider supporting it.

...who beat Victor and nearly beat Yurio. So how does this even compute?? You sound awful salty about an animated character.

The plot of Yuri on Ice mainly revolves around Yuuri competing in the Grand Prix of Figure Skating, which is a real event. I don't see how that's just "a sprinkle of sports".

Also, it's not "slice of life" just because it takes place in a setting that's like the real world. Slice of life stories focus very specifically on the small, mundane moments in people's everyday lives, which Yuri on Ice does not.

No one is equating yuzuru to Yuuri - they're just saying their scores were similar, but thanks for reading the article.

"A sprinkle of sports"? Just come out and say you didn't watch the anime; Yuri on Ice animated 23 different skating programs. That's a sprinkle of sports in your opinion?

It's also very clear you didn't watch the anime because it's stated multiple times across all the episodes that Yuuri is great at steps and spins and only his jumps are inconsistent. But sure "he's a loser".

Honestly you're making the figure skating community look very unfriendly and even somewhat toxic with your comments here. Let people enjoy things. Everyone knows real life skating and anime is different, no need to be so angry.

@ ecchigas Pour that salt away from the ice! We're just having fun here.

Super proud of Yuzuru and Shoma for taking gold and silver for Japan. I'm not 100% sure but didn't Hanyu admired Evengi before he became the new front runner for best male skater? I saw a tweet from Evengi who congratulated Yuzuru for defending his title so I'm sure some YOI fans will compare that to Yuuri's admiration for Victor (even though Yuzuru and Javier are kinda cute friends). Also the Japanese pair that performed Yuri on Ice and all of the French skaters were great! Really want to see figure skating live now.

Congrats to the young Shoji player and for reminding me that I'm 10+ episodes behind March Comes like Lion.

@fencer,

just stating facts. dude's a loser

@oggers,

fine, sports rip-off

@blueola,

yes i watched it through all their funky animated skating scenes and in the end, yuri lost which is what he deserved with his disney on ice skills
i want sports anime like hajime no ippo or grappler baki not some shoujo sports. the main appeal of yoi was on the character design, i bet if the characters had a more rough appearance or sketchy like ping pong, none of you would give it the time of day

@keichitsu,

ok, fine

The edge is real.

Can you be kind enough to not be a rude person and go enjoy Hajime no Ippo and Grappler Baki without fouling up this topic? Thank you. I want a martial arts manga inspired by Street Fighter but you don't see me whining about it.

If you can't even explain why he's a loser you're clearly not here for rational debate. In fact, it sounds like you were taken in by YK, himself, unreliable narrator extraordinaire. Perhaps you need to watch the show again? No? Then let me refresh your memory. Yuuri Katsuki qualifies for the Grand Prix Final TWICE, which is something most competitive skaters don't experience during their careers, and the 2nd time he does so he wins a silver after a world-record FP. Only the top six skaters in each fs category are invited to attend the GPF. He's that damn good. The people who are good enough to qualify are usually also going to be chosen for EC or 4CC, Worlds, and the Olympics and generally are considered contenders for the podium or close to it. You would know that if you had actually paid attention to the show or done the barest modicum of research about competitive figure skating.

Moreover, I certainly hope you are not calling RL figure skating silver and bronze GPF medalists "losers", but your crude and thoughtless remarks imply otherwise. Consider the recent Olympics podium: Yuzuru Hanyu (gold), Shoma Uno (silver), and Javier Fernandex (bronze). Each of these men, all of whom are bloody fantastic enough to be on that podium, have had a silver at the GPF at least once. Are they, pray tell, losers? Javier Fernandez (remember, our reigning bronze Olympic medalist) is friends with Yuzuru Hanyu (our reigning Olympic gold medalist). Yuzuru also has a warm senpai-kouhai relationship with the reigning Olympic silver medalist, Shoma Uno. Indeed, Yuzuru is such a good sportsman (as well as a legend in figure skating) that he would have no time for people who call silver medalists and bronze medalists "losers".

AH, I see. "Shoujo" sports? Let us bask in the gorgeous mixture of misogyny, homophobia, and toxic masculinity baked into your puerile rant. I know, I know, like Yuzu, I'm sure you've suffered a severe, potentially career-ending injury, and then did months of painful daily rehab so you could train so hard that a mere 3 weeks after you begin doing jumps you could appear at the Olympics (with many people wondering if you'd be well enough to be on the podium) and SLAY so well that you are able to skate through your pain to win your second Olympic gold medal. What an absolute weakling, eh.

I think I can smell the fear of people far more talented than those who "gift" the world with such rank nonsense as yours. Mirai Nagasu, Alina Zagitova, Han Cong, Evgenia Medvedeva, Nathan Chen, Kaetlyn Osmond, Eric Radford, Meagan Duhamel, Mikhail Kolyada, Tessa Scott, Yuna Kim, Adam Rippon, Sui Wenjing, Scott Moir, and Mao Asada, are just a few of the many, many Olympic skaters who outshine the haters with their strength, their power, their grace, their skill, and their heart.

Okay, okay. I think this heated comments is getting out of control and if this keep up, the moderator might close the forum. So I hope everyone calms down.

On the side note, congrats to the winners. It's crazy to see real life players to surpass in-sports anime records. Such an awesome accompishments!

Dude if you want realistic Figure Skating go watch the Olympics, that's real. Same thing if you want to watch real basketball and not some DBZ Kuroko... go watch NBA. Don't mix anime with real life.

Anyway congrats skate god Yuzuru for setting a new record again. Shout out also to Queen Evgenia for winning silver medal, Kubo-sensei recognized her and now her idol Baekhyun too, so proud of her![/list]

The skating competitions in Pyeongchang were amazing! Congratulations to everyone who performed--not just those who placed, but everyone!

And to the above poster, I would have watched Yuri on Ice no matter how it was animated. It was an excellent show!
