I don't care much for compilation movies, but I am cool as long as a second season is coming.

Makes sense. It’s popular enough to try and get the movie crowd who haven’t seen the series yet a new chance to view it although I personally would stick with just watching the TV version. Nice to see the staff reiterating that a sequel is underway. So hyped for that whenever it releases.

That's really good. But I'm worried not with this work, but with another: Where is the site of The Rising of the Shield Hero? Every time I enter the Twitter profile of Kinema Citrus and the site and I only see the PV there. It's time to update things. This series and Goblin Slayer for me are dreams come true, because they are being adapted. Whenever I read the original material I thought that these two series [Goblin Slayer and The Rising of the Shield Hero] when being adapted would really be the fulfillment of a dream.

A second season was badly needed for this. Great to hear it's getting one.

At least now we know it's a real season, not a movie/OVA. Looks like they're actually taking this seriously.

I guess now it's time to play "where will the first movie end?" There isn't a super obvious middle-point to the story so far. Maybe when they leave the Seeker Camp? They probably can't get away with cutting much of the double-length finale episode, though, so it might have to be later than that.

Well, some of us are assuming and hoping that the sequel will be another tv season, but the producers have not specified if it is a series, movie or OVA.

The "sequel" noted on the official website is "a brand new episode is in production"(新作エピソード制作進行中!) which would be an OVA. Maybe I missed a follow up somewhere, but I'm a little confused by the wording in this article, which doesn't denote that it is an "episode" anywhere, and kind of implies(and successfully based on the comments here), that it is going to be a sequel TV series.
Anyway, I kind of expect a second season as well, hence this level of continued interest in the franchise, but I still have not seen anything specifically confirming a sequel TV series.

In any event, I'm glad this is getting two recap movies especially. Since I like binging, films work for me, but I don't really do recaps unless they don't cut too much, like the Madoka films, which I've seen much more than the TV series. I'll probably purchase and watch these recaps regularly, and will try to see them in theaters as well, if possible.

Hopefully they will cut out the fetishism completely this time around, instead of just toning it down (although the manga is already being so infamous with this as of late that the author become some sort of memetic lolicon god in the eyes of 4chan, I always hoped for an adaptation with none of that).

Cutting out the bath scene in the double lenght episode for an instance could give them some minutes too.

Season 2 has none of that as far as I remember that arc, so it's gonna be great to binge watch with people after said films,if this actually happens.

Compilation Films seem to be making a comeback, and honestly that's not a good thing, but at least we can skip them if we are not interested.

I don't really see why they need two films to cover the content in the existing anime. If you can condense "Gone with the Wind" or "Dr. Zhivago" into a two-hour movie, certainly it would be possible to do that with "Made in Abyss." The first three episodes could easily be collapsed into 10-15 minutes, leaving another 90-100 minutes for the adventures in the Abyss.

I don't see anything wrong with compilation film and they've been a part of anime for decades. Anyway, it's for people in Japan who missed out the TV broadcast and people who don't have time to spend 6+ hours on binge watching.

Besides, the show's production quality is high so I see it as a natural transition to theatrical version.

Hope they drop some of the annoying censorship, its a big part of why the manga is still superior to the show.

Considering the high production values of the anime, as well as the fantastic music, voice acting, etc. it’s extremely likely that no one shares the same thoughts as you do on that front. Rolling Eyes

Considering the popularity of Made in Abyss, it would be extremely foolish of them if they decide to try and cram the rest of the manga into one OVA episode instead of a full season and I imagine the backlash against the series would be pretty severe if they did that.
