Well for LN readers that much was obvious, At least it seems to go back to the regular story progression.

Man I don't think I'll ever get over the new art style, it's so jarring. Everyone feels too cutesy, Rias used to have this aura of maturity from her look and now with these soft features she looks like any other big boobed anime girl.

Did the previous 3 seasons cover 8 novels or is something getting skipped?

This. And it doesnt just apply to Rias but to the other girls too. Its like the mystique around them vanished and got replaced by a generic feel you find in lots of ecchi anime women

Vol 8 is comprised entirely of bonus stories or omake that would be better fit in an OVA. In fact one of the stories in vol 8 was featured in season 1. However its clear that these bonus stories are all canon

I really hate it when any series changes the art style from the original season. I'm not even sure I will bother to watch this upcoming season, it's so jarring.

I hated the artstyle for the previous seasons so much due to how off-model the characters were and how lanky they looked. I like how the new season is sticking more to the novel’s style and I’m so glad they kept it.
Seeing how the last seasons of the anime held up was like watching Sailor Moon Crystal s1 and s2 all over again. It’s unbearable.

Actually the previous seasons were what stuck to the LN's style of the time. The change of character design started in vol 22 and it now follows the manga but much more detailed. Before that the designs of earlier volumes are actually what you see in the first 3 seasons of the anime. If anything it was the previous style that gave D X D the fame it has today particularly for Rias. Thats why whenever theres an ecchi show with a busty red head as the lead theyre often compared to her.

Try comparing them. Heres an image of Rias and Issei from spoiler[vol 22]

Heres 2 from spoiler[vol 10]

It can be chalked up to Miyama improving his art and becoming more detailed but the difference is noticeable

Alright then, it will be interesting to see what will happen as someone who hasn’t read the light novels. As for the new art style, over time, I find myself getting used to it more and more. It’s to be expected when you have a new studio taking over a series when the old one screwed the pooch very hard with the material. As for not bothering with the new season, if one honestly feels that way, they were likely never that invested in the series to begin with and is quite the overreaction.

The new art style is definitely going to take some getting used to, but I think my excitement for a new season will make that pretty easy.

I actually prefer the new art style over the old. I prefer brighter colors and everyone looks prettier than before. Also for me, this helps the series seem less generic as a whole.

Old art style > New art style. I'll never get used to it.

But to drop DxD S4, for only that? Nah. My love for DxD won't be ruined, just by that

I love this art style waaay more than the previous one. Rounded subjects are so much more aesthetically pleasing to look at than the ridiculously pointy designs of before.

So then the first 3 seasons covered vols 1-7?

I prefer the new art style over the previous one (in the previous one, everyone's eyes just looked too big), but my final verdict comes after seeing the action scenes.

I prefer old style over new, especially Akeno. Dude she went from being this aloof mischievous character to looking kind of daft/air headed.

That said I dont think the new style is bad, just not as good as the original.

But yeah more DxD , bring it on.
