A truly sad day for any fan of collectors grade figures. Palisades was a company that could, and did, do it all. They actually did a series of Dragonball busts MANY years ago. Their Muppets line will go down as one of the best all round figure lines ever. They had offered their expertise in figure manufacturing and marketing to most North American anime producers but, alas, none took them up on the offer. That really sucks, we carried their figures all the time at the Suncoast I work at. I know with the coverage of the Musicland situation some people were mad that it didn't concern anime
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/8062.html according to this article Musicland (Sam Goody, Mediaplay, Suncoast) 20% of the US anime market came from our stores. 5-15% of the manga market came from Musicland. Not certain on how much an impact we had in the figure market beyond store exlusives since most people would wait until figures went on clearance. I remember someone asking why this story was being reported on ANN in the first place. I think the fact that companies who produce anime/manga-related goods going out of business is pretty important for the anime/manga fan base. Now, the question is....who is going to be the second casualty??? I went to a local anime shop to see if the local Media Play and Suncoast closures have affected their business. He said that there was a dip in business due to the fire sale going on at Media Play and Suncoast so we will see how the next few months go for the specialty shops. If there is something good that comes out of all of this it is that the anime shops will (hopefully) get some of the business that Media Play and Suncoast took from them. |

A major follow up, almost literally over-night Palisades (or at least it's name and some products) was bought by a new company called Limited by CAS, Inc. Which products has yet to be announced, but I'm sure we'll have a better idea at Toy Fair a week from Sunday.

This doesn't really affect me at all. There are not Suncoast stores in Canada to my knowledge at least definitely not in 5 hours driving distance. Most specialty stores we got here are only the one store or sometimes two excluding Sakura Media. Sakura Media is the only big chain but I believe, all their stores are in the Lower Mainland.

The new companies' web site http://www.limitedbycas.com/ already has many Factory X and Palisades products for sale but no new info on pending lines or new releases. I guess they're going to wait for Toy Fair for those announcements
