The two of them have been colleagues/partners for over 50 years. It's no wonder he's still in shock.

If I had a best friend who shared my joys and hardships for half a lifetime and together created works that are destined to be eternal, then losing him would feel like a natural disaster. Something so big that it takes months and even years to fully hit home and grieve.

While I am normally 1 of those to criticize/shake my head at many of Miyazaki's statements, I cannot do it for this article. He lost a person that was probably his best friend. To 1 of Japan's greatest animators, my condolences for losing such a close friend.
