I got very mixed thoughts on this show...

The pacing is very slow at the moment and I can't find the characters likable, especially Asta. Not to mention, his voice is really irritating to ears to listen to when he yells. Going to keep my expectations low for rest of the show. It's quite underwhelming so far .

Fully agreed Asta really makes it difficult to watch specialy since he so often screams kinda already got used to just skip thoose parts to ease the pain on my ears. Srsly makes me wonder how they could give a pass to such VA. Only thing i hope is that he gonna scream less in the future or that fans complain enough so that perhaps they change it abit then since there are rumors that this gonna have 50~ episodes....

What exactly was Yūki Tabata thinking when he created Black Clover? I mean, seriously. The parallels between Asta and Yuno are WAY too like Nauto and Sasuke.

Yuno is a super smart and reliable boy with a cold demeanor, and everyone has high regards for him. People treat him as though he were the best of the best. Much like Sasuke.

Asta, on the other hand, is the town’s magic-less wonder. He’s beyond stupid, constantly hitting on a woman who doesn’t love him and everyone mocks him about his next to impossible dream of becoming a respected authority figure. Nobody believes he can do anything. Just like Naruto.

And on top that: they’re rivals. Confused

This whole series has predictability written all over it.

Similarities like this are probably not solely in the hands of the mangaka. This reeks of being heavily workshopped with an editor/editorial team.

Lol, people are dropping this show left and right solely due to Asta'smvoice and the obvious unoriginality of it. Yes, most shonen arent very original - but BC takes it a step too far, imo. It seems like an outright copy sometimes. No bueno.

Yeah, I honestly believe the powers that be have overestimated the appeal of this show and that it''l honestly just fall flat in it's face despite all the advertising. Pretty sure we have a dud on our hands.

Yuno isn't cold. He's quiet and calm. Not cold. If you pay attention to his interactions towards others, he doesn't push people away or look down on them the way Sasuke did. He's just a quiet guy. If you notice, the other orphans like him; they would never have liked Sasuke. He acts extra-distant towards Asta because they've declared one another to be "rivals", but he cares a lot about Asta and has shown it several times already.

Sometimes, people see only what they want to see.

Oh, and Naruto didn't have NO ability to become a ninja. Asta is much more like Rock Lee than Naruto in that respect.

Yes, there are similarities in the Asta-Yuno relationship to the Naruto-Sasuke one, but I don't think they're as close as some are making it out to be.

Its an amazing anime I think Ep3 was a bit better than the previous two as we got to finally see what the world was like, got some touching moments between present and past Yuno, and see why Yuno loves Asta so much, and lastly see how Yuno actually does play around some with him (when one would think his type of character would want to have little to do with him).

I love how the image for this show's main review page shows Asta yelling.

Both My Hero Academia and Black Clover are clearly inspired by the success of Naruto; Horikoshi himself has stated Naruto was his primary inspiration (complete with a thumbs up from Kishimoto). And this makes sense, since despite what weebs would have you believe, Naruto remains a massive critical and commercial success, being the best-selling manga in history internationally (not domestic or worldwide; that’s obviously One Piece). So with One Piece remaining what it is and with WSJ trying to forget the fact that Bleach existed, it makes sense that they would try to capitalize off of the only remaining member of the Big Three.

What’s important, though, is how they approach it. MHA takes a more experimental approach, taking the things from Naruto and trying to portray them in opposite lights with hit-or-miss results. Naruto is now far less outspoken and just an ordinary kid (Izuku), Sasuke is now a plain ol’ jerk (Katsuki), Sakura’s sweet side is now far more prevalent than her brash side (Ochako), Jiraiya and his philosophies of peace are made the core from the beginning rather than brought to us gradually (All Might), Gaara and Neji are now one character (Shoto), etc. Black Clover, however, is playing it far safer. Aside from the rivalry being portrayed in a mostly positive light, as opposed to Naruto (which was more lukewarm) and MHA (which is more negative), there’s really nothing here that hasn’t been done better in other shows. It basically takes the characters of Naruto, has them live in the world of Fairy Tail, and enlists them in the system of Bleach. There’s barely any attempt to try something new like MHA, and I think that’s the real reason why it is currently not as critically well-received.

Only barely hanging on with this one because I'm mildly interested to see how the mystery behind Asta's grimoire plays out, but I was so bored with episode 3 that I started skipping through it in the second half. Yeah, I understand that this is a potential long-running shonen action, so we can't expect a single-cour or double-cour pacing, but many others have done more than this in their first three episodes. At this point it just feels like it's continually repeating itself to kill time.

If the Magic Knights Entrance Exam looks after next episode like it's going to be a dragged-out multi-episode tournament affair then it's going to lose me.

No go read the manga please Yuno =/= Sasuke for fudge sakes the first is a cool silent man and the other is an emo asshole who like to bitch about his past.

Heck I'm kinda like Yuno with the I don't give a fudge attitude he portray in the manga. Frankly the manga depict an interesting world and the fact that both Yuno & Asta are orphan will sure be played in the overall serie.

I'm pretty confident that Black Clover will show its potential as the manga/story advance.

I absolutely adore what Studio Pierrot did for anime adaptation. They nail what makes both Asta and Yuno so endearing and amplify it with really great expanded main story stuff. They nailed the funny and enthusiastic Asta to a T and for Yuno I really laughed when they added that part about him being a kinda childish. Very fitting and it shows Pierrot knows what they are doing.

What I really like the mist though is all the stuff they added to the YunoxAsta relation. For example, the flashback didn't feel as quick and we actually get to better see Yuno admiration for Asta and his resolve, making himself more resolute in turn.

I need more main stort expansion like episode 2 and 3. That's exactly what makes anime adaptation so great.

Also I have to mention that Asta's VA is just perfect for him and I'll forever disagree with anyone saying otherwise.

So yea great story adaptation, great animation and a great artstyle. Best anime of the season for me so far.

Also please people stop...Yuno /= Sasuke. They are so different beyond the rivalry part.

The repetition of ideas in this show is staggering. "Even a poor orphan can become Wizard King!" Two seconds later: "Even a poor orphan can become Wizard King!" Then a whole five seconds might go by before, "Hey, you know what? EVEN A POOR ORPHAN CAN BECOME WIZARD KING!!!" Oi freaking vey.
