Honestly, I think this show is alright but I find Theo to be a really blend character.

Beyond that, each episode seems to be improving and it was recently announced that it would be a 24 episodes so they have plenty of time to focus on the story.

This show is just hovering above watchable, it does some cool stuff, like the people they fought in ep 2 joining them instead of just being defeated. But at the same time it's just so by the number. In the preview guide I said:

Quote:
I mean at this point it feel like by episode 4-5 Siluca will try something, fail but Theo will show up and make everything okay and save her. She'll thank him while crying (probably under the rain or something) and from this point on she'll just slowly fade into his shadow... and I'm already getting bored just typing that.

Turned out I was being optimistic with my episode 4-5 since most of this already happened in episode 3. And judging from the OP, which heavily feature Theo as main character, Silica will just keep retreating into the background (also whoever made the OP really need to learn what a spoiler is, when you show someone has evil in the OP and good in the show, it's not hard to figure out whose going to be the big bad one).

RoGW may not be mind-blowing but I know it's a show I can sit back and really enjoy so long as it doesn't go off the rails. With 24 episodes I'm optimistic that this break neck speed in the first few eps is to get the ground work out of the way, so we can slow down and get a nice meaty story for the remainder. Oh and yeah the Lord Marksman and Vanadis vibe is definitely strong with this one.

In regards to Theo I fully expected people to rag on him for being boring, but to be honest I like the character. He isn't Godlike but nor is he incompetent, he's smart enough to let Siluca handle most things while being prepared to step-in when necessary. He has his ideals but also isn't trying to change the world, altogether Theo feels pretty grounded and believable. But most importantly for me he's likable (and not annoying), someone I could easily throw my support behind. I like Siluca as well, her somewhat jovial and wily personality balance out their duo quite nicely I think.

So, only seen ep 1 so far, but the biggest question in my mind is "why wold you keep an item that demon lords can come through in such a public place with pretty much no security or safeguards?" Granted I don't know the source material but it seems a bit odd.

That and Theo's introduction had me eye-rolling the entire time. The white knight act with him running up and bravely defending the maiden in distress and talking about using crests for justice and to stop wars was so cliche I was wondering, hoping more like, that there would be something unexpected to mix up the formula. Like maybe one of the enemy Soldiers might kill him and then the real main character might show up. Sadly that didn't happen. But he basically got a mage, and an entire domain basically hand delivered to him in the first episode, and it doesn't even feel like he did anything, he just sort of went with the flow. His saving grace is that he at least has some self awareness, that he's not strong enough to save the world by himself so at least he's not an idiot.

And my final nitpick, all of the villains so far have been complete idiots. The soldiers ambushing Siluca (and it wasn't even a surprise ambush, they fricken announced themselves and their intentions and gave her plenty of time to react) said themselves that they heard mages can defeat 100 men alone. Then why the heck were they attacking a mage with like 10 men?! And the lord who ordered the ambush, you would think he would know about what rules he can and cannot get away with breaking! Is he really that ignorant? How long has he been in power? And then he decides to attack 2 mages and another lord whose abilities he doesn't know by himself, yep, absolutely nothing could go wrong there.

This has been a giant rant but this is just the first episode and was filled with so many formulaic scenes that it just pissed me off for some reason. I think it's because I've recently been reading some light novels where the main characters are completely ruthless and unscrupulous so going back to old fashioned white knight main character just feels outdated. I'll use the 3 episode rule and hope that it changes up things a bit going on from here.

So far I'm really enjoying this for what it is. I don't expect any ground-breaking storylines, or knock-my-socks-off twists. It's just an ordinary story of kingdom building, and it's fine.

I knew Lady Marrine was going to be trouble even before the end credits of the first episode gave that away, just for the withering look she gave her would-be husband for fainting when all hell broke loose. Smile

It's called hubris, and people with undisputed power tend to fall into its trap. We see it in the headlines every day. He just assumed the authority of his title would be enough to make her back down and surrender.

Ok, watched eps 2 and 3. I am enjoying it a bit more now, some of the side characters are entertaining (that cat needs to make a return) and the fact that they're fighting actual battles is pretty fun. The fact that the MC realizes his shortcomings is also a welcome fact since at least he knows where he can now improve.

However, my new major complaint is that things seem to be going way too smoothly. ep 2 they defeat a rival lord and make him and all his followers his vassals, then in ep 3 he defeats the country's king?! Doesn't that seem a bit too soon? Anyway, interesting enough to continue watching at this point.

While I'm quite enjoying this series, I absolutely agree that it is moving way too fast. There's been no real character development for anyone save Siluca, and while she's undoubtedly going to be important throughout the rest of the series (I would assume) she's not the only major character who needs to be developed.

That said, I do like the Lord Marksman and Vanadis vibe that this series is giving off. That was a blast to watch, and it seems like this will fit that same niche that Vanadis had a few years ago. Plus it's going to run for 24 episodes, so we may not just drop off as things are getting extremely interesting again Anime hyper

I think the fast pace was inevitable. I think Grancrest is the kind of story where they have no choice but to leave out world building explanations in the anime, because if they don't, it'll sound too much like game mechanics? Confused

Anyway, considering the potential pitfalls, I think the anime so far is still pretty good. Much better than expected.

For some reason, apart from Lord Marksman and Vanadis, I'm also getting a Legend of the Legendary Heroes vibe. Must be because of all the colorful characters.

I like this show, and I like Siluca especially, but the plot is speeding. I can only imagine that it has twice as much source material as it has episodes?

Oh, man, I hope she stays in the spotlight! She's the best part of the show! She does need a new outfit, though, she looks cold. Razz

This show is growing on me, but at the same time I feel like I could potentially drop it at any point. I hope that once the main party gets together that we'll get some more character building.

This show gives me a bit of nostalgia for Record of Lodoss War not because of anything related to the plot so much as the feeling of watching an anime that was based on an idealized D&D game. Siluca is a great character who is cunning, manipulative, and occasionally rude but is a good person. Theo is heroic and has a sufficiently noble goal. My main issue with the show is that in the first 3 episodes the story moves so quickly that at times I feel like I don't really know who the new characters are before they introduce even more new characters. I get that not everything in the light novels need to be put in the anime but I hope that the pacing of the story slows down a bit. For the most part though this show is a good fantasy adventure.

I'm still kinda liking this anime, but Siluca blushing and going "Theo-sama~" every couple of minutes really made me Rolling Eyes. It doesn't help that Theo-sama has been your typically bland light novel hero so far...and yeah, i don't really get the need to rush when there are 24 episodes, but then again, i'm not familiar with the source material.
