I thought this anime was alright. It entertained me when I watched it, but I didn’t really look forward to it every week and I think I’ll forget about it in about a month. Everything about it was in this weird middle ground for me, from the characters to the setting to the art. .

Maybe it’s a bad comparison, but it felt like diet-Durarara in the sense it wanted to be about quirky ragtag group of people and criminals and their shenanigans living in a quirky city in Japan. But Tonkotsu Ramens just wasn’t able to have the same impression on me, even a little.

B+? Maybe I need to give this another shot. This series failed the 3 episode rule and I dropped it. Doubtful I will go back to this though this series was pretty bad.

The show was great and the casting for the dub was fun as he'll. Josh Grelle as Zanba was quite fun to listen to

I'd say the show got better as it went. It probably wasn't until episode 4 when my opinion of it improved considerably.

I didn’t get to it while the show was airing week to week, but marathoned it in a couple days not too long ago. I absolutely loved it and it definitely helped fill the Baccano!-esque hole in my heart. The cast was stellar, and the characters were great. This was a win for me!

I can see these two being shipped together easily, although the series itself doesn't overtly frame their relationship that way.

And yet, even some of the characters ship them. Very Happy

I totally loved everything about this series, but you really gotta check your real world morality at the door with this one, and just have fun while it rolls on over you. Like I found myself feeling happy when the torturer dude finally got some work! Shocked Did I feel guilty? I did not.

Overall it was really pretty tightly written, once you suspend disbelief over its basic premise and accept that they're just having fun with their quirky little hitman world. As far as I can see they only left one loose thread hanging, which had a couple of reasonable solutions if you want one (you might not even notice it wasn't explicitly resolved), but might be a plot point in a second season should it get one. I sure hope it gets one. I'd love to spend more time with this likeable bunch.

I really fell in love with this anime and its characters, the show is super fun and enjoyable, I liked how everything was eventually connected during the arcs and how the characters interact with each other. Has been years since I watch a show more than once, also this anime made me watch a dub for the first time and I got to say that I really enjoy it.
Definitely my favorite anime from last season, and the year so far.
It may not be a sports anime but it is still best baseball anime ever Very Happy

I kept recommending this to my friends while it was airing. Surprisingly, it was really enjoyable. I love the whole hitmen concept. I think it was also that I really enjoyed some of the VA's. Banba and Lin are a hilarious duo, Lin being mostly sassy.

It's been quite awhile since I've enjoyed all the characters and their personalities. Hakata Tonkotsu juggled characters like it was nothing and somehow everyone fit together like it was home.

Hope I enjoy the dub, cause I'll definitely be re-watching.

Hakata Tonkatsu Ramens was awesome...definitely one of my favorites from last season. I loved Yuuki Kaji as Lin (honestly I just really like Lin). The whole cast of characters were great, I really enjoyed the story, and the music really fit the show and set the mood (I loved how each ED had different banter from Banba and Lin).

Also, as a side note, I love ramen. And I found a place within walking distance of my home that sells tonkatsu ramen...it's glorious. And tasty.

I mentioned in another thread about Hakumei and Mikochi also flying under the radar and these were two sleeper hits to me last season. The dynamic cast really sold an absolutely ridiculous premise well, i really enjoyed Lin as a protagonist, and there was definitly chemistry between him and Banba without messy stereotypes. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it, and I agree after about episode 4 is when I got really hooked. So much stuff is released each season these days (good thing!) and I think both of these shows just got eclipsed.

I quit on S2 of Durarara because it lost much of its zany, multithreaded appeal when all the characters and plots coalesced.

Hakata T Ramens just recalled everything I liked about Durarara and actually improved IMO when you find out how everyone fits together. The Ramens are more like a family than a criminal organization, with the ninja hitman et al being those out-of-state cousins who have strange ideas about potato salad LOL

I plan to watch the dub this summer, when I need a little respite from HS wangst series and isekai power trips.

Yeah, this was definitely the most fun show about serial killers, killers of serial killers, gay torturers and ninja assassins i've watched in a while! Shame that it went completely under the radar over here.

No idea how well it did in Japan, but since it's based on an ongoing series of light novels, there's always hope for more.

Yeah I heard that the plot arc involving Banba's backstory in the LNs is pretty interesting and we never get that far into that in the anime so it's perfect plot fodder for a second season.

But you can never tell what will get a new season or not. I really loved the story and the characters and was pretty disappointed that there wasn't any demand that ANN review it on an episode basis.

But hopefully it won't be totally forgotten. I rec this to all my friend to watch.
