Pure gold nothing less, I haven't laughed so hard in years, I'm legitimately scared of suffocating every time I watch an episode. The moonlighting as a bartender scenes are literally killing me. Show of the season without a doubt for me honestly. Anime hyper

Maybe its just me but the entire blackmailing segment was the funniest part of episode 3 not only because of how it played out (with hitomi recording what's being said) but I was also like "doesn't this lady know she can get in a lot of trouble for employing a middle schooler?" And it just got funnier when the teacher came in Laughing

Hehhhhh any hiccky factor from the blackmailing was completely swallowed up by how hilarious it was, I hope the bartender sequence become semi common in the show as they are the best part for me.

Personally this is easily the show I'm most looking forward every week.

I think this fall into the same category of uncomfortable as this season Akkun to Kanojo, if you have experienced that kind of situation directly or indirectly, it becomes uncomfortable. Since all the blackmailers I have met on my life were troglodytes and not slick vixen's like Utako, I felt no discomfort.

I think that is part of the charm of the series, Nitta is far from perfect, he isn't a real dad but (so far) somehow he manages to cover the important stuff in being a tutor (which a normal parent probably would not be able to due to Hina's psionic powers).

The shitty adults part of the series is the main appeal of this series, and if you were disappointed by that in these first 3 episodes, oh boy you're in for a ride. The whole philosophy of Hinamatsuri is that adults are shitty, deceitful and dumb, and most of the time the children have to deal with their bullshit while they try to become, unlike them, reasonable human beings.

Preface: I have read the manga, so I do know what happens later. Hinamatsuri is awesome and probably my favorite (non-sequel) anime this season.

Not to minimize Hitomi's blackmail experience, but I was more uncomfortable with Anzu's homeless scenes. I'm not saying that being homeless is objectively bad, but it's more like... it feels a bit exploitative in how it's being used to mine for sympathy?, especially in a show where everything else is presented as deliberately weird, so it almost seems like it's saying "ha ha, she's homeless now, what a weird situation!" I dunno, I think I'm not articulating it correctly, but suffice to say I've always felt that this subplot was the weakest part of Hinamatsuri.

Hinamatsuri is my biggest surprise of the season. This is a very effective comedy that makes me laugh. I do not condone organized crime and borderline child abuse, but this show is nuts.

I've read some of the manga in the past and Hina is actually the dullest character of the lot. On the other hand, Nitta is pretty good. Anzu is more interesting, sympathetic and sort of acts as a foil to Hina's behaviors. And Hitomi? Hitomi is comedy gold in the manga almost every scene she's in makes me laugh. I only hope they can do her justice in the anime. Not that the manga is perfect, it is a bit uneven and early on it felt like they changed the direction that was originally intended, becoming more comedy like and slice of life.

I think you already acknowledged that the show is supposed to be somewhat absurd with its humor and therefore its not an endorsement of child exploitation. Its absurd for Hitomi a middle schooler to be a bartender, more absurd that she's great at it and then they add the cherry on top when her teacher walks in! Also if the show has enough time to show Hitomi's story some of this will make even more sense.

Yakuza, Yakuza! Its like complaining that Tony Soprano is taking too much time off from eating gabagool/capicola to be a gangster. And what is the result of Nitta's bad behavior? Comedy/punishment of a sort.

Hinamitsuri is not the greatest comedy on the planet and it will have certain challenges to pull off, but so far its a fairly solid comedy with its group of misfits and absurd situations.

It's difficult to tell how this will all play out in the long run...

The long run is something the manga largely excels at, so odds are good.

I’m having a lot of fun with this show so far. Throughout the episodes, I keep having a stupidly big grin on my face from seeing all the absurd and funny moments that are executed quite nicely. The chemistry between the characters are very charming and the animation is pretty good. This show has a lot of heart to it and is quite the solid entry in a stacked season. Smile

This show is delightful. It's charming, hilarious and nicely animated to boot, with some great facial expressions, excellent comedic timing and voice acting to sell all the jokes. I found the stuff with Anzu in episode 3 to be by far the weakest section so far, as well as feeling like episode 3 was weaker overall for having 3 bits instead of 2, which made the episode feel much less focused. That said, everything having to do with Hitomi is comedy gold, and her part in episode 3 was amazing. I will have to disagree with the viewer that that was in any way uncomfortable; her being blackmailed into being a bartender was the best part of the episode. That seems to be the kind of show we're dealing with here, so best leave your hangups at the door.

Did you say, "weird"? Okay, I'll probably watch it.

Oh, but it looks like it's more the "humor" kind of weird... well, I'll still give it a look, but I wish we had seriously weird shows anymore. Sadly they're all gone.

Unpopular opinion: i don't like Hina all that much. Being a selfish brat seems to be her main character trait and i've never been too fond of the "emotionally challenged girls = kawaii~" trope either. Also her frequently wrecking Nitta's apartment is already getting kind of old...but fortunately there's Anzu und Hitomi! Unlike some others here, i found Anzu's interaction with the homeless guys very heartwarming, she immediately became "best girl" for me. And Hitomi being blackmailed into becoming a bartender and meeting her teacher was hilarious! Laughing

This show wasn't on my radar at all, but it's definitely become a keeper now.

I approve [of] this statement.

From what I’ve seen this seems to be an incredibly popular opinion with manga readers. Her general unlikeability allows for jokes that wouldn’t really be possible otherwise, though.

I am part of the group that finds Hitomi's part hilarious, including the blackmail even if it has a sort of bad taste element to it. The humour was in her actually thinking that the woman would play fair and showed herself to be pretty awful in a funny way. And the absurdity of interacting with her teacher.
