I wonder why they chose the Skypeia arc. It is by far the weakest pre-time skip story arc and honestly except for introducing the Dials and foreshadowing Haki doesn't really connect to much in the wider story of One Piece.

First poster: Skypiea arc is the weakest pre-timeskip arc.

Second poster: Such a dope arc!

Makes you wonder where I stand.

...

I think Skypiea is one of the best arcs in Shounen Jump, and probably my fifth favorite pre-timeskip only behind Alabasta, Sabaody, Enies Lobby and Impel Down.

So it's only behind ALL the pre time skip arcs for the most part.

I never liked any of these retellings tho, mainly cause I don't like how the new animation looks compared to the old one.

Wow Skypeia is one of my favorite arcs. It had good twist, funny, memorable villain, and most of all: the sense of adventure. Riminds me of my friends and I going into new places, wondering around, having fun, discovering new things, looking for some treasures. Amazing.

Marineford, Thriller Bark, Water 7, Drum Island, Arlong Park. Baratie. You're missing many if you consider what they listed "ALL for the most part".

I'm looking forward to the Special.

In terms of plot, I don't remember it being the greatest, since as you said it was mainly a lot of set up for bigger payoffs down the line (Haki, Merry's Goodbye, etc.) That said, I think it does get some bonus points for totally subverting the usual shonen villain tropes by having the MC not only be a good match against the main villain, but being entirely invulnerable to their main attacks entirely. Within One Piece, the only other moment like that I can think of is when Zoro beat Hordy Jones in one hit under conditions that should have put him at a significant disadvantage.

Thanks for the defense! You really saved me the trouble of having to type that out myself. I guess he's one of those people that just includes the East blue and Baroque Works sagas as two separate arks instead of the many smaller arcs within them.

Super looking forward to this, this arc has some of Robins best moments (though I'll always miss her dark skin).

This will be a blast to watch in newer animation, can't wait to see it myself. There's a lot of interesting fights to see and I wonder how everything would look like now, since the Skypiea arc was a long time ago.

Noice! Great choice and by all means, please do more of this special recaps!
Skypeia Arc is one of my absolute favorites. The idea of them gonna come back from when they don't know how to use haki is gonna be fun to watch.

I wish the team that worked on these would work on the anime. The quality needs a boost and the pacing needs to be faster. The anime is suffering terribly in quality and story. Please if anyone from Toei reads here, please show the anime more love and bring back the ending themes to the show as well. Maybe have 10-15 high quality episodes a season.

I find the only true change/quality to these 'episode of' productions are, the character designs, which are higher than any of the anime episodes and a little below the movies like Strong World, Film Z and Gold. They haven't really fully captured the amazing feeling or atmosphere seeing them in the anime for the first time (maybe it will for brand new fans).

I will watch it because I love One Piece and it's nice to have high quality One Piece production, even if you're familiar with the past content, which was good back then, but I don't feel that the anime is being treated like it deserves to be.
