Aside from possibly small references, Dead Patient isn't really related to the original Corpse Party story as far as I know. So you don't really need to have completed the original series of games first to enjoy playing it.

Have you played Dead Patient yourself? I haven't, but I saw a brief clip from it that contained characters from the first games, and it was pretty spoilery for Blood Drive. I don't know if there's anything beyond that, though.

Ah, Gungrave. The game most people only know from the anime that's praised for mostly ignoring the games.

When it first came out I read a couple articles that pretty much made it clear the stories weren't connected like that, but then it's possible they made changes to it for the reboot (which I actually didn't know about, and reading now I see yeah that added stuff). That's unfortunate then.
Guess that one person will need to play through Blood Drive as well then if they don't wanna end up missing stuff. Wish my Vita's save data hadn't corrupted on me, I was halfway done with Blood Drive and haven't had the motivation to pick it up again after that.

The clip I saw was actually from the original game, years ago--I didn't know the new version had any extra content. Huh. Then again, it was contextless enough that a person who hadn't played the other games probably wouldn't even know it was a cameo, unless it was expanded upon later; someone who did know the characters, though, would definitely get spoiled. I guess the developers assumed Dead Patient would only be played by people who had played all the other games and people who were totally new to the franchise.
