Good. Legit threats should be treated accordingly.

sent threats over Twitter from December 2015 to May 2018

Apparently it took management two and a half years to decide to report this or it took the police that long to find him. Shocked Rolling Eyes

Japan seems way too lax when it comes to crime.

This is where I disagree with free speech. When you make death threats, free speech goes out of the window.

I think that's sidelining the issue a bit. In the end, everything comes down to the law, and the suspect has (allegedly) repeatedly reported his intent to kill someone, which is something you really only do to someone you know, who knows without a shadow of a doubt that you're only joking. Or referring to something else. "I'm going to kill you!" contains vastly different contexts when said between two people playing a battle-focused game and a creepy guy saying it to a pop idol. And while killing someone's game avatar in a game is hardly illegal, murdering a person in real life for no reason is. Or if it's an episode of Pop Team Epic, which you should never take seriously in a million years.

In the end, it's all about responsibility. The suspect wasn't as much arrested because he said it as the fact that the agency responsible for said idol had good reason to believe he actually meant it.
