Just wondering. How does yaoi anime sell compared to manga?

I still find it funny that CPM started out with post-apocalyptic and techie anime as well as medieval-ish stuff like Lodoss, Arislan and RG Veda, and now have turned around and jumped into yaoi. Well, they're no one-trick pony like ADV.

Go with what sells, right. And CPM has realized that yaoi fangirls are a very lucrative and underserved market. Very Happy

If you compare the quantity of yaoi manga to anime it's about 1% of what there is that gets animated! I think Loveless and Sukisyo is selling well (at least the place I buy DVDs from is always out of stock Anime smile)
I know the manga of Embracing Love has been quite popular and it's possible it'll sell well, as the animation is good (unlike the older yaoi anime), there's only 2 episodes, which means that hopefully the DVD won't be expensive! and it's quite a hard yaoi, which always seems to be popular Wink

Anime hyper Amen!

I've talked to a friend who read Embracing Love's manga before she saw the anime. When I told her that there were only 2 episodes, she said that it's not good enough because they're going to go include the blah blah blah...

The manga lovers of this series won't be buying it, but I've only talked to one person. So -shrugs-. I guess it's okay even though they tried to cram a lot of drama in there. -shrug again-

I'm a huge HaruDaki (aka Embracing Love) fan, and I originally felt the same way about the DVD release. At 5000 yen per 30-minute OVA, the discs were quite expensive, but I'm glad I bought them.

It's obvious in some ways that the backers had a limited budget, but they spent wisely and got top-quality seiyuu (Toshiyuki Morikawa and Shinichirou Miki!), excellent BGM, opening and ending themes, and faithfully brought some of the more memorable manga scenes to life. Also, the OVAs are structured in a manner that if the studio wanted to continue producing them, they could; thankfully, they didn't try and condense 9 manga volumes into 60 minutes.

I'd encourage the poster's friend to buy the DVDs...HaruDaki's one of the best yaoi titles, and definitely worth supporting.
