If there is one good thing I can say about this whole series is that I'm glad TNK and director Tetsuya Yanagisawa are no longer associated with this thing.

I was actually super impressed by the art/animation of episode 1. Good job Passione, now hopefully they can keep up the quality.

#NotMyDxD

I want Gotou Junji back doing the character designs, not this new guy.

Asia also looks bustier than normal in a couple of shots, which would not be a welcome change since she's long filled the niche of the more modestly-proportioned girl in the cast.

This is kinda funny cause in the Light Novel, Issei expressively mentions that she's getting bigger. Laughing

That art style is definitely different, Issei's pervert face actually reminded me of expressions from the 2nd konosuba season. But it doesn't ruin the series for me. Glad to see this series return, it's pretty much my guilty pleasure whenever it pops back up for another season, and I'm definitely not the only one considering how it's now got 4 seasons. What percentage of animes get 4 non-consecutive seasons, very very few I'm sure.

There aren't a lot, but even within its own genre it's already matched by To Love-Ru, which also has four non-consecutive series but a significantly higher episode count - and that's without counting enough OVAs to constitute another full season.

Still, when regards as a whole franchise I give DxD the edge for having a more definitive story throughout rather than adding it in midway through the franchise.

The Harem King has returned. All hail the Oppai Dragon (the Dragon of Dreams). Episode 0 was a great restart.

Passione studio did a great job with Citrus & I'm already loving that they're following the books. Can't wait for the finale and dare I day Season 5's episodes 6 &11-12.

Btw, I like the new softer designs but do agree that it'll take others some time to adjust. Can't stop smiling the Harem King has returned baby and I'm in Kyoto while he's visiting... It's a dream come true

Very cringy art. OP/ED were nice. Episode itself was enjoyable.

But most of all: The 3 year wait is finally over. DxD finally continues!

I'm still not comfortable with Rias's visual update, as she seems to be lacking some of the imperious air she's always had. A softer portrayal of Rias just makes her feel like any other busty anime girl, rather than the dynamic leader she's supposed to be.

I knew you were going to feel the same way. The art will definitely need some getting used to although the fight scenes are great no doubt. The thing about Asia's bust size is that while she certainly does get bigger over time the difference shouldnt be that noticeable until half way through the series at least and this is only about 1/3 out of the series' 25 vols where 3 of which are bonus/omake stories

Man, I’m so glad to see this franchise return. High School DxD was one of the very first anime that I’ve watched since becoming a fan of the crazy medium that is anime and I have a close attachment to it along with another series that was mentioned earlier in this thread, To Love-Ru. In terms of the harem genre, I personally would give a slight edge to To Love-Ru mainly for being my first anime (the art is godly as well), but this series is definitely second on my list. I do wonder, however, if it’s possible for High School DxD to reach the episode count of To Love-Ru. It would at least make me happy to see that happen along with, hopefully, more episodes of To Love-Ru just to keep having a leg up on DxD. As for episode 1, it’s starting out pretty swell. The fan service is quite nice as always and just seeing the characters again after 3 years fills my heart with glee. The new character designs will take some time getting used to, but other than that, Studio Passione did a nice job animating the fight scenes and the OP/ED are fun to listen to. Overall, I’m happy to be watching these characters again and I will also be looking forward to reading Mr. Martin’s reviews of this season.

It is possible depending on 1 factor. Whether D X D gets a season 5 or even 6. I did a quick calc and TLR's ep count is roughly 80 including the OVAs each of which is length of a full ep. D X D on the other hand has about 52 including Hero. D X D's ep count is much lower cos most of the OVAs were only 5-7 mins long although there are 3 that are a full 24 mins long. If not for that D X D should have about 70 eps. By all accounts D X D should have the edge right now cos theres still so much of the LN left to animate while TLR-D ended and since Yabuki is drawing Darling in the Franxxx I doubt he'll have time for another TLR manga if Hasemi has a new one in the works

Who cares about the story as long as there are naked girls. If I wanted plot I have 20 something other shows I can watch. I'm here for the PLOT.

I'm really trying to understand the off-model characters complaint; particularly the complaint with Asia (If anything, the characters have been more on model this season when compared to the preceding seasons). You've stated that Asia's boob size fluctuates significantly in this week's episode, but considering all the scenes she was in, I did not see this significant shift in breast sizes from scene to scene; at least to the egregious degree you seem to be claiming. Who knows, you may be seeing something I'm not but i literally went back to check because you had this complaint last week too and i am lost as to why. Not to mention that consistency in characters' breast size has always been all over the place from the rip, usually being exaggerated when a scene demanded for it. One thing is true: Asia's breast have gotten bigger since the previous three seasons (a detail that i think is actually a plot point), but this season has been doing a fairly decent job making this new bust size for Asia uniform throughout her character design.

I have to echo this as well. The show has actually stayed surprisingly on model especially compared to s3. Asia's boobs have gotten bigger as well, but I'm not seeing the crazy fluctuation, unless you're referring to how they look clothed compared to not clothed, which should always have a noticeable difference.
