I guess collecting all these under a "Sekai Games" banner is new, but I swear I remember them announcing the Switch versions of My Girlfriend is a Mermaid and A Magical High-School Girl at their Anime Central panel in May.

Sekai also did an iOS release of AMHSG (probably Android too?), but when I asked at ACen, they said they didn't have any further plans for mobile. Seems plausible that consoles -- where people are actually willing to spend money -- may do better than mobile for them.

Off topic, but are you implying game devs or companies in general can't/don't make money from mobile or that profit from games/software on consoles dwarfs mobile to the point that you would describe mobile as a place where people aren't willing to spend money?

A lot of people are angry at Sekai Project atm as they gave FAKKU(exclusive distributor) the wrong version of Maitetsu which was the all-ages version with the hentai scenes simply slapped on. Proper version has differences in dialog and a different set of CGs.

And reading dovac's(Sekai CEO) twitter, seems they knew they worked on that version and never bothered to inform FAKKU. When asked what he was going to do about it, answer was more or less 'who knows'. Apparently going to Disneyland is more important for the time being... And there's no mention of the whole debacle on Sekai's main feed. Needless to say, people are pissed.

Remember when Sekai Project crowdfunded a bunch of Vita VN ports and then only released one of them years late?

I'm just saying that the only way to make money on mobile seems to be user-hostile in-app purchase techniques like lootboxes/gacha, stamina systems, etc. You can make a lot of money this way -- those weak-sauce OEL VNs like Episode and Choices are estimated to make $1 million a day -- but only with these kinds of techniques. Put out a good game at a fair paid-up-front price, and you get flooded with 1-star "this is a ripoff and should be free" reviews.

Sekai Project has done a few simple paid-up-front releases on iOS (A Magical High School Girl and Highway Blossoms), but when I asked about it at ACen, they sounded quite certain that they were done with mobile.

Sekai Project can't even release their PC games properly (still waiting on fixes for Hoshimemo and Leyline), but here they are, taking on yet another project. Rolling Eyes
