I believe one of the Suncoasts I frequent (Langhorne, PA) is one that's remaining open. After all, they were hiring in March.

I have a bad feeling that one in the Sacramento area is going to be on the hit list (especially since there is a FYE in the same mall as one of the three Suncoasts in the area.) I only found out recently that we lost a Sam Goody in another mall, and I'm hoping we don't lose the Suncoast there as well.

We had two Suncoasts in the Cleveland (OH) area (North Olmstead and Strongsville) that just recently closed. A third Suncoast in Mentor is still open, but incidentally the FYE in the mall in Mentor (where the still-open Suncoast is located) closed without warning (and it was a pretty good-sized store, too).

If your stores are anything like mine, you'd know if they'd be closing by now. For about a month they've had store-wide sales starting at at least 20% off everything. Now that it's the final weekend, everything's down to 50-70% off. Hell, it's so advertised, one look at the store's small "window space", and you see 8 signs advertising it. This is for both a local Suncoast and Sam Goody.

Well we found out two days ago our store was one of the ones Trans World is liquidating. Up until then we had been promised that we would be getting new registers and everything was kosher. Then an hour before close the DM comes in and says we are done. The liquidators are on their way. I mean understand thats how business, retail especially, works but what pisses me off is all the people we promised that we were staying open even after the whole Mediaplay hoopla and now I feel like crap because the guy I got to renew his Replay for the next two years is hosed - so hat's off Musicland for stringing us faithful employees along and here's a big FU! Plus now where in the heck in this dumb whitebread town I live in am I going to get my anime/manga/action figures .....

The manager of my Suncoast store said that her store was going to start liquidating starting Monday. She found out last night and hadn't had a chance to tell her employees yet.

Now where am I going to go for anime??**big sigh** There is an anime store in the mall that I work at but they don't offer sale prices and I'm not sure if you can reserve anything at Best Buy. Hopefully, FYE will open a store in the mall since there isn't another music/mainstream movie store there.

The Suncoast in Cambridge, MA is closing.

Poor Suncoast, you fell prey to a crappy business model. Why would I go by at your store when I could go to the other end of the Cambridgeside Galleria to Best Buy and get the same DVD for about $5-8 bucks cheaper?

I was devastated when I saw that the North Olmstead store was going to close and I also had to cancel my recent purchases of 2 years Replay membership at the sugestion of the head manager. I'm just glad that at North Olmstead they still have a FYE (not a really big anime section though) and a Best Buy so I can still get my anime whether they have it in stock or not and not have to buy it on line. Some good news is that some of the people that work at the North Olmstead Suncoast got hired at FYE by some people that use to work at a Suncoast in another nearby mall that closed down about a year ago so I'm glad that some of the people will still have jobs.

Also The Ramblin' Wreck, Suncoast couldn't sell the DVD's for the same price because the DVD's are Suncoast's main source of revenue while places like Best Buy can sell them for less because they are not their main source of revenue.

That's good to hear. The funny thing about the North Olmstead store is that they had an anime screening event a couple of months ago, but this was before the announcement that Musicland was going to close certain Suncoast stores nationwide. (I didn't know about it until after the fact; the event occured on January 12 and I didn't get the e-mail until after the event passed.) I'm going to have to check and see if the Mentor store is going to stay open.

So dang what if the most over-prices store you could possible buy your anime from is/has closed. All ya need to do is plan a few days in advance, order from one of the TENS of discount anime specialty stores on the net AND save yourself close to $100 per 10 DVD's. The only thing suncoast has ever been good for is window shopping, although I feel sorry to the 7 employees/store losing their job/employee discount. Bestbuy rocks, even if their selection is 75% of suncoast.

I still hear/see a lot of people commenting on Suncoasts prices but if you picked up a series when each volume was released or used their reservation system, their anime was cheaper than anyone else. Not to mention they were right in the process of implementing a test program for new lower prices when the **** hit the fan. I order a lot of stuff online but nothing beats being able to walk in a store and grab exactly what you want or see some cool new trend items as well. I think thats what I will miss the most. I guess Anime Castle will become my new figure store.

More woe in the Cleveland area: Akron's only Suncoast, the one in Summit Mall, is also shutting down. That leaves Best Buy as the only decent anime source near me.

Is there a list of stores that are going to be closed? I want to know if my local Suncoast will close.

Here is the list of Sam Goody and Suncoast store closings. The three Cleveland/Akron area stores LordRobin and I mentioned are on this list. Fortunately the Mentor store is not on the list.
