Not really a typo but should have been typed out differently. Typed out it should say third.

I've recently discovered that there's a lot of people that have never seen 1st, 2nd, 3rd and such written out which kinda shocks me whenever it's brought up considering this short form world of texting and DMs that we live in.

Okay, thanks for clarifying that. I was confused why there was a conversation about how it should have been "third". Is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc becoming uncommon? I'd think it'd still be used for writing dates on invitations or something.

I'm more interested in why anyone would deliberately go buy the paint and risk of arrest just to spray over a couple of anime characters on manhole covers
These people have just way too much time on their hands.

Unless something has changed since my thirty years with Kyodo, (half of which as an editor), 1st, 2nd, 3rd... are never written out in news writing. First, second, third... through ninth should always be written out, especially in a headline.
Same rules apply for writing out one through nine, then at ten, writing out as 10.
