I saw a trailer of this. It looks like a good movie.
This is a little off-topic but I heard that the Wachowski brothers are gonna remake this. Is it true? |

it's funny that they would acquire this considering it has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Basilisk, besides the names. the movie is entirely different.

Its sounds as if both have the same story lines in my opinion, anywho, so I guess FUNI is gona release the movie once Basilisk will be ending its R1 dvd release. |

I've seen this movie, at least I think its the same one. Its called Shinobi: heart under blade Its a really entertaining movie to watch for anyone who's bored at home.

While I haven't watched the film (and do not intend to), and though I acknowledge that Nakama Yuki and Odagiri Joe are decent actors, this film from description & screenshots strike me as an unforgivable bastardization of Yamada Futaro sensei's work. I'd stick to Basilisk if I were you.
Yamada Yoji's Twilight Samurai, on the other hand, is a rare gem of a samurai film that is equal parts heart and honour. Highly recommended for everyone. Also well worth your time is The Hidden Blade: The Devil's Claw, the second film in Yamada's sublime samurai trilogy. He's currently working on the third: One-line Samurai. All the films were inspired by the short stories of Fujisawa Shuhei sensei (http://www.kodansha-intl.com/books/html/en/4770030053.html). |

Nothing wrong with getting control over a franchise. Not too many English reviews, but for those who are interested in reading about SHINOBI (including some spoilers), look here.

I've been thinking about watching this movie for awhile now, especially since the japanese dvd comes with english subtitles (I'd still need a region 2 dvd player though- grrrr, stupid region codes
 ) Glad to hear the news! I'm especially happy that the press release mentions that this might be coming to theaters, since it looks like a gorgeous movie that would be great on the big screen. Since it's live-action and not anime (and thus has a wider appeal), I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll receive a bigger release than simply an art-house run. One can hope, anyway.

the Japanese R2 release had English subs on it already, i bought the Iga-Tsubagakure Special Edition. I hope Funi just repackages to R1 and releases. Without screwing it up.

FUNi doesn't screw things up. Except for their horrid release of DBZ. And the front-loaded trailers. Hmmm. Maybe you should forget what I just said.
But seriously, why do people feel the need to have doubts about an R1 company's release of something before even hearing anything about it? All they said is that they have this film about ninjas and some of you are already getting on their case, thinking that they're going to somehow ruin it. Geez, give them a chance and remember that it could've always been picked up by 4Kids (don't know how they'd digitally edit images (blood, alchohol, etc.) in a live-action film, though). |

i LOVE the movie!! i bought the special limited edition that was released on Feb. 18. i do hope it's going to be released in theatres.. i would so watch it!...

It's a strange movie, but the more it goes on, the better it hangs together. I'm not sure why they keep wasting Nakama Yukie in roles where she has to be weak and indecisive, but she sure is good as bad ass.
The action in the film is very good, if occasionally a little goofy...but the problem is the person who feels stronger usually loses. It ends up being not terribly convincing. The Great Youkai War is a much better film. |
