I do gain the impression that each time Kawamori is interviewed, a proverbial "poker face" has to be adopted for the sake of the obligatory Arjuna question...

Whoever told him those bullcookies about using the name "Pandora" should have been fired. My guess is they had no idea what the myth was or why the name might be appropriate. Jeesh.

But having said that, Juushinki Pandora (Last Hope) has been a pretty decent show. Not Macross or Macross Frontier levels of awesome, but quite enjoyable. Looking forward to watching it again when it receives its inevitable Netflix dub.

This always bugs me, the anime is broadcast on several Japanese channels first, it is already ending its display in Japan, but Netflix is always treated as something special by several people, whether it was like Devilman Crybaby or B: The Beginner would be OK, are truly original Netflix animes that are only broadcast there, but not the case of Junshiki Pandora where Japanese TV has received priority, no one gives this value to Amazon or Crunchyroll.

Kind of a weak interview TBH,

no questions about why Delta was a dumpster fire?
I have yet to watch Pandora.. but from the feedback I have read it was nothing to rave about.

That's how most interviewers are.
To continue to get access to people they WANT to interview, they're going to avoid asking questions that might potentially offend the interviewee.

If I understand correctly about Japan, the last the interviewers there will do is generally ask questions that might potentially insult people. It's a cultural thing -- they tend to be very polite even if it comes off as cool and disingenuous at times.

Yes, it will lead to "weak interviews" but at the same time have you EVER liked it when someone was being insulting to you, intentionally or not?
It's the height of crassness and stupidity when people ask questions about what underwear you wear and very invasive when they start to ask about your family when the point of an interview is to discuss your current work!

I will definitely agree that Kawamori's career has had a lot of ups and downs.
He's very lucky people have a good memory where the original Macross and Macross Plus are concerned. Escaflowne was also an excellent TV series. Nobody really makes recommendations for most of his other shows and movies, however.

i'm more surprised he didn't go on an uber bashing spree when it came to macross. especially considering the state of the series in the US!

I hope Kawamori starts wondering "hey, why do people always ask me about Arjuna when I come to the US? Maybe I should push for a BD release." And I would be one of the tens of people who would import it.

A larger reason is the agent/agency representing the person often gets final say about what makes it into circulation. There might be 5 or 10 or however many more questions asked and answered. However, they might not get approved to be posted.

I thought these were good questions, TBH. Interviewer clearly knew all of Kawamori’s works and could relate them. Bonus: deculture joke!

people love to bash Kawamori for what he did in Arjuna(especially in this site...),but they don't have the courage to confront him on his face about it despite getting the opportunity to do so...
