and Jim Carrey (The Truman Show, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) will voice the villain Robotnik

(Okay, so can we go back and delete all those "But he's not FAT enough to play Robotnik!" posts from the last thread? Seriously.) Razz

In February 2016, Sega Sammy Holdings president and CEO Hajime Satomi revealed that Sony Pictures Entertainment was planning the film. The Hollywood Reporter reported in October that Paramount Pictures had acquired the rights to develop the film.

There were a dozen reasons for Sony Animation to make this movie (not good ones, granted, but reasons), but only one reason for Paramount to try and grab it:
They're still desperate to get a Paramount Animation label going, even if it means making "Monster Trucks" to do it. That's why they were going all-in in releasing this movie in Big November, when it would normally get some more modest buried October release.

Actually, Marza Animation Studio ( SEGA's CG studio) was booked for the movie from the start. Even if SONY went ahead with the project, SONY Animation would've never been part of the team anyways. In fact, it seems they really had little to do with the movie considering pretty much everyone stayed on the project even after it jumped ship to Paramount. The only real new addition was Blur Studios being brought on to help Marza ( which is funny since Blur was SEGA's go to for Sonic CG before they created Marza).

Either late 2018, or early 2019.
