More Starmyu is always good! Season 2 was really good but most people dismissed it as just another idol show.

I am still hoping that the first ova and season 2 will get released on Blu-ray/DVD. Maybe Discotek can release it.

Anyway, I look forward to season 3!

Season 2 wasn't just "really good", it was one of the best things I've seen in a long time.

Also, for the stage plays, there's going to be a "Shuffle Revue" concert in January with Hoshitani, Nayuki, Kuga, Tatsumi, Sawatari, and Ugawa; and they're also doing an orchestra concert. TsukiPro did an orchestra concert in July, so maybe this is a trend. Hopefully - music anime focusing more on the music, and less on just having popular voice actors sing whatever, and assuming fans will buy it just because it's them.

Also, I mean... I guess anyone who reads the article will know that the "Kao Kai" is the student council that mentors the first years, and that the "new Kao Kai" means the year between Hoshitani and Otori, and that this season will probably be about which characters out of Hoshitani's year get chosen for the Kao Kai in their third year (which would be in, whatever continuation gets announced after season 3) ...

Me, I loved season 1 but I found season 2 very disappointing - way too many new characters, and the show trying to do too many things and basically everyone falling through the cracks. What I really loved in season 1 was how the camaraderie developed among the core cast and how everyone got to show their charms, but in season 2 it was just too much and all opportunities ended up being squandered, most importantly Ageha who just went from cold to "HOSHITANI IS MY NEW BEST FRIEND" pretty much at the drop of a hat. (Also, I really can't help but think that there was a plotline about Nayuki and Hachiya dealing with their former best friends suddenly being best friends with each other and them being left behind or something, that got squandered for some reason. Generally based on the pre-release materials I really would have liked more of the dynamics between Hachiya and Ageha beause the glimpses of it that we got were pretty interesting.)

Long story short, while I'm happy that there's a season 3, I really hope that it's going to be more like season 1 than season 2.

Yeah, Hachiya didn't get that much development, and he was more of just a sidekick for Ageha than anything else - sort of like Tatsumi and Sawatari - but the focus of the season - and of the whole series, really, is Hoshitani's relationship with Otori. Episode 7 of season 2 is purely a masterpiece, especially where voice acting is concerned. The season finale is also amazing (and not just for shippy reasons).

I picked up on the fact that Hoshitani and Otori's relationship is the point of the series all along, but a lot of people seemed to miss it. But once you notice that that's what ties it all together, the series seems a lot more focused.

The stage plays also make it even clearer that that relationship is the point - the obligatory flashback to when Hoshitani first saw his "admired high school student" is drawn out into a really gorgeous dance sequence between the two of them and ensemble dancers with umbrellas. The stage plays have so much great dancing... especially Otori.
..... that, and the fact that the two OVAs between seasons 1 and 2, which are all about Hoshitani trying to find the high school student, were never subbed.
Ageha did latch onto Hoshitani rather fast, but he has an obsessive personality... like, it made sense to me, it felt like it had established his character as someone who would react that way well enough.
The plotline with Nayuki didn't get left behind, he goes with Ugawa. They sing that adorable song with the circus style together.

Besides the relationship things, season 2 also had a lot of interesting ideas around the concept of being an artist and having another artist who you look up to - Ageha to Haruto vs. Hoshitani to Otori, and the fact that the roles they're going for are literally the shadows of their senpai - spoiler[and compare that to the role that Hoshitani ends up getting - not Otori's shadow, but an equal partner].
