Not surprising. Out of all the titles nominated, this was the one I've seen appear the most on comic book stores' "employees' choice" shelves.

It's not surprising because the Harvey Awards are pretty much only about identity politics. I mean, it was obvious it was going to be either this or My Brother's Husband.

Considering Hiro Mashima won their first ever International Spotlight Award last year, I'm not sure we can really say anything definitive about the Harvey Award judges' "identity" other than "folks who like 'em some big stonking breasts".

I just lost my job because my boss saw the image in this article as soon as clicked on the article. Had the NSFW warning been stated, I wouldn't have clicked it. Why isn't there a NSFW warning for this, but there is for so many ecchi and hentai articles on ANN without the actually nipple being shown? What makes that image special?

Crying or Very sad

Congrats tho.

For starters this is not the proper thread to discuss any grievances you have with the article image or any label/lack of label with it. The feedback section is the proper place. Secondly, while that sucks about your job it's not the fault of ANN or any of the staff if you're surfing the site at work and get in trouble for it.

A well deserved win for what is an excellent manga. The sequel's good too.

I have never hear of 'My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness' before reading this article. I am very interested in reading the tile now.

Even in today's media when diverse types of sexuality are promoted, there still isn't much focus on showing people the different ways that they can come upon discovering and accepting their sexuality. Even when a fried or associate tells me that they are homosexual, I never consider what it's like to realize that internally.

I'm looking forward to an enjoyable read.

That seems like an issue you should mention to the human resources department at your job. I think most people avoid browsing the internet for non-work reasons when their boss is nearby. Also, clicking on an article with 'My Lesbian Experience...' in the title while at work seems like a bad idea if that is an offense that could get you fired. Assuming you aren't being facetious here.

My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness is a fab little manga, as it's follow up. And it's brilliant to see it being recognised, well deserved.

As for an award embracing 'identity politics', well, I'm perfectly comfortable with that. So-called identity politics is now more important than ever, whether it addresses the lives and concerns of women, gay and trans people, ethnic minorities; any award which takes a conscious decision to celebrate that (and I'm not saying this is specifically the case here) is welcome in my book.

I don't see the need for those quotes... Nothing wrong with people who identify as lovers of large breasts. That group needs representation too.

Anyway, I haven't read this particular work so I can't really judge it. I'm kind of surprised it beat out your name. I wonder if that having a movie and a book hurt it here?

I'm trying to figure out what identities Harold Sakuishi and previous winners Attack on Titan and One Punch Man represent.

No, wait, One Punch Man is the superhero identity, and Attack on Titan is the giant zombie monster identity.
Am I close?

Anyway, congrats to MLEL! I really gotta read it now!

I was just trying to imply that you can't tell the judges' preferences from the results of a single reward, but it didn't come off well. Laughing

Except identity politics isn't about legitimately addressing those issues, rather obsessively focusing on them to elevate said people with unfair privileges and alienating the majority populace.

Also, contender My Hero Academia is too much like One Punch Man because superheroes, and your name is more about the novel and movie than manga.
