This sure was a ton of information stacked into 1 post.

In short:
SC VI shapes out to be great.
What on earth is Sony doing? Hopefully they'll do a 180° and add a filter instead, as they did on Steam.

While I don't care much for boob jiggle modes or the Senran Kagura series, I am going to say that Sony is probably afraid of some potential social media outrage if they allowed Intimacy Mode to remain in the game (or any similar mode if past decisions are any indication), despite the fact Senran Kagura is not majorly popular or well-known. I'm not really with any side on this, as this is just a neutral observation, but the fact is this kind of naughty stuff sells games in Japan. Some folks may not like hearing it, but it's true.

However, that does beg the question of whether or not Japanese feminists are actually protesting against such content in their own country's media; are they?

Does it look like they've had any effect on the hundreds of booby manga, anime, and games that come out every year? Hell, half the time those types of things are made by women themselves.

-Senran Kagura: Yeah, this is the first real instance I've seen recently that can really be argued as "censorship." This isn't the publisher doing this of their own volition like Nintendo with Fire Emblem and Xenoblade or Sega with Yakuza 3 years back. This is a platform holder saying "You change this or you're not getting released" while also not informing anyone of these changes. This is yet another act from Sony that's made me find them a little questionable as of late.

-Soulcalibur VI: My favorite of the series is actually SCIII just because it had the most to do with stuff like Chronicles of the Sword and the Create a Soul feature. IV and V were lackluster follow ups because of the lack of content; there was just nothing to do in them. V exacerbated this by being so wishy-washy with the time skip as well as having a TERRIBLE story mode. SCVI just having that is more than enough to satisfy me as the core is so strong it's hard to screw it up.

Many Japanese feminist scholars take very strong stances against the limitation of media content, possibly because of all the awful censorship of feminist writers in pre-WW II Japan (I encourage anyone interested in what Japanese feminism looked like back then to look up Seito/Bluestockings, it's pretty fascinating).

Manga is historically recognized by Japanese feminists as one of the first ways that Japanese women were permitted to make a living via the expression of their sexual feelings and desires, and for that reason attempts to censor otaku-related media have more frequently been made by Japanese social conservatives rather than Japanese social liberals.

For example, this statement about the proposed censorship of sexual violence within manga that was put out by the Japanese Women's Institute of Contemporary Media Culture can basically be summarized as "so many women make a living producing depictions of sexual violence that it would be anti-feminist to put their welfare behind the welfare of fictional characters".

Sort of similar but I remember when Blue Reflection was coming out, I was waiting for it so excitedly. But it never showed up in the PS4 store. I asked the Koei Tecmo twitter a few times about it and when I finally got an answer it turned out it would not be going up on PS4 in Australia! It was like, clear to go on other platforms. It was weird and disappointing. I think it was because of the extra content having "Nudity related to incentives and rewards", which I guess only one group of people had a problem with?

In other news one day hopefully I'll finish Book of Shadows. I'm glad Sachiko's Birthday Party got licensed because I remember looking at pictures of it when it was released in Japan and everything thinking "well we'll never see this in English..."
Also excited about Dead Patient

Well regardless of Sony of America/Europe being dic** about the senran kagura content there is always a loophole I can see Japanese developers using to get by it if they so choose. Granted this will hurt localization companies like x-seed, atlus, nisa in the long run =/.

Marvelous japan could just sell a Japanese/english "translated version" of their games on 3rd party sites like Jast-Usa or Play-asia. Given that these games will be considered imports they don't have to abide by the ESRB or PEGI ratings or have to be approved sony's other branches.

As for soul-calibur six that game looks bad-ass but i'm still put off due bamco pay-walling off part of the roster. I understand charging for characters later on that did not exist in the first place in games like xenoverse 2. However the characters being offered as "dlc" in Soul Calibur six are already done & ready to go out of the gate.

IS THAT GRAPHIC CORRECT!?! Geralt of Rivia?!? is in SoulCaliber6???? The Witcher??? noooo wayyyy! once I saw CD Projekt RED's next title was going to be a top down butchery of the in-game sub-game of GWENT as a 'strategic war game' sim thingy I was disappointed. so? how's the ol White Wolf look? just as good a CDPR's work? is he a good character to play? if so, I'm gonna look into SoulCaliber6 for PC and see if I can afford it. I'm 500+ hours into my copy of The Witcher 3 Complete Edition... I'm playing the entire game again in the special NewGame+ setting.
