Good, now it has a chance of getting a nice limited edition. Maybe this and the Crunchyroll/Funi breakup means we'll be seeing more shows from Crunchyroll getting released by Sentai.

I'm of two minds on it. On the one hand Sentai has impeccable LEs, but Funis dubs are still much better. Would be fun if they could somehow combine their talents, but that wouldn't happen.

Hmm, I’m in two minds about this. On one hand, I’m glad to see the industry move on in spite of the breakup. On the other hand... on the topic of dubs

The average quality of a Sentai dub is about on the same level as one of the weaker Funi simuldubs in any given season. They’re okay-ish, they’re serviceable, they’re not abysmal like a lot of Sentai dubs were in 2012-3, but they fall short of the standard I expect from just about any other company. Even the best Sentai dubs aren’t as good as Funi’s SSSS.Gridman from this season.

I still honestly can’t figure out what makes them worse (Especially considering little nobody studios in LA are putting out some pretty solid dubs for Netflix) but I kinda feel it’s a mix of iffy audio mixing, weird direction, strange translations, strange casting choices and the actors sounding just a bit too American (if that makes any sense).

Kinda rambling here but point is I don’t expect much from a dub... if they even make one.

Nice. It had been a while since Sentai licensed a KyoAni show.

Perhaps Sentai will do it.

They've improved in the past few years, at least on their more popular titles, but if you watch some of their older dubs with the subs on, you can see that they basically did not even bother writing a script - they had the actors read the sub script, word for word, and improvise when it didn't match the lip flap. So even when they got good VAs, they all tended to come out sounding stiff and unnatural. They also didn't bother making sure the actors pronounced names consistently and stuff like that.

"Serviceable" is probably the perfect word to describe them. It just seemed a shame because some of those titles would have some really great casting choices, just to be bogged down by poor (read: non-existent) writing and direction.

To be honest, I think this is more about HiDive getting Ponycanyon US shows. They have 3/4 from this season, the accounts tweet at each other, and they got some stuff from them a few seasons back too.

Sentai/HiDive was also slow to get the Tonegawa show, so I don't know if this is anything to do with a crunchy partnership yet.

Either way, I just hope Sentai decides to dub this.

I still do not understand what is so bad about Sentai, out of all the dubs I've seen from them, the only ones that were bad was Golgo and Gintama( the later being hard to adapt).

The reasons people say so sound nitpicky, mostly that they disagree on a casting choice. Or there is the ADR directing and script, which I sort of got when Steven Foster still worked there, since he like to take a lot of libraries.

The other ADR Directors though, do not seem to have any reason why you would cast aside their work, Kyle Jones has been doing this since the original FMP, so he knows what he is doing, and I haven't heard any of the VAs from Funimation cite any issues working with their directors(Jad seemed to like working with Kyle at any rate). There is also Christopher Ayres, Janice Williams and Emily Neeves who all seem to be good at their jobs.

Someone technically did, just not in the US. Anime Limited announced that they had acquired the home video rights for the show some time ago, although there's no update on a home release. Maybe we'll find out more during this weekend's MCM London Comic Con...

I guess this the begining of the crunchyroll/ sentai getting most of the big titles and funimation getting the scraps.

I truly doubt it, even though that wouldn't be the worst thing in my opinion. Funimation probably still has big money, plus now they're owned by Sony.

As I pointed out above, I do not think this is a solid partnership yet.

I don't even know if Crunchyroll will partner back up with anyone after Funimation. They were preparing to handle everything themselves, and in some cases had dubs and everything lined up. It seems like Shield Hero will even be their first attempt at a simuldub/dubcast, so I'm not even sure if they need Sentai for that.

Regarding Funi getting "scraps", I don't think they'll have big issues. Their press release made it clear that Sony is about to dump some major money into their efforts to make Funimation bigger. Even when they were competing, they managed to snag some good shows.
