I love how Meledandri really wants this movie to be made for gamers, and I especially love how he got Miyamoto involved. That assures how much potential this Super Mario movie has. I'm still skeptical, but they are letting the original creator get directly involved, and that alone has me interested.

Also, who wants to bet that Illumination will have some anime airing on TV Tokyo do crossover promotions for this movie in the vein of what Inazuma Eleven and the original Despicable Me did back in 2010? I have a feeling that the Pokémon anime, if it still airs in Japan, will do a cross-promotion with the Mario movie - especially since they're both Nintendo franchises.

I think doing Mario as an animated film is already the right choice to make. Even with as far as we've come with CGI special effects, the world of Mario is just too fantastical to make into a believable live action film. I'm glad they're consulting Miyamoto in the creation of the film. I'm less concerned that they'll be able to come up with an entertaining and more with how they'll handle the issue of characters talking in a way that feels natural to the film. And you know there will be outrage if they don't cast Charles Martinet as Mario.

If Miyamoto is overseeing the project, there might be hope. Illumation is hardly my first pick for adapting Mario (or anything really) given their spotty track record, but at the same time Blue Sky had a really rough track record as well but Charles Schulz's grandchildren oversaw the production and had the power to pull the plug on it if they felt it wasn't going to respect their grandfather's work, thus we got a film that most Peanuts fans were pleased with. Hopefully that will happen with this film as well.

A Mario film by 2022?

Gee, I hope I'll have the patience to wait that long. Laughing

Not to mention if Charles Martinet will still be alive by then.

Both of these things would be pretty interesting.

I agree. Full CGI is the way to go.

What could help kill time is to try playing every single game in the Mario franchise. This includes all spin-off series, such as Wario, DK, and Yoshi. By the time you play all of them, the movie will be out. Wink

I almost forgot this was happening. That's probably what my itching for seeing a legit Mario movie these past few days was telling me.
