They could have done this before they made Invisible Victory Rolling Eyes

So is this mean they are becoming liquidated, with their current titles going to Sunrise or being merged into another studio. It wasn't 100% clear.

I hope this doesn't mean the final Yamato film is in any danger... Sad

Well, there's the bad and good things.
Bad - Xebec as independent part of the company was in the charge of some good ecchi series where another IG Port studious weren't go and probably doesn't go, so it's still a bummer if pretty qualified studio gonna be liquidated.

Good - Well, at least we know that Yamato will be still strong.

Unfortunate, but at least they're stuff will be finished. I just hope Sunrise gives the employees jobs in this subsidiary they're establishing.

I hope that the staff for Xebec lands on their feet after all is said and done... or at least as far as one can in the Japanese animation industry.

More selfishly, I hope to see more new Yamato come out as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that one. Yamato is a big enough property that I think they'll be careful with it. Plus, it seems like something that is in Sunrise's wheelhouse anyway.

If this screws over Fafner, I'll be pissed.

Yeah. I hope so too as well.

Does "liquidation" mean that XEBEC is going bankrupt?

It can, but in this case, since it will be a lateral transfer from one corporate owner to another, it means that they will be "gutted"

It may or may not happen of course, but Sunrise bought a failing studio from IG for a reason beyond the goodness of their own heart, so expect that the properties Xebec hold has intrinsic value greater than the physically tangible assets. In this case Yamato and maybe some of the talent.

I expect that within six months the actual brand of Xebec will cease to exist, and most of the physical assets ans talent will be pick over and dispositioned accordingly.

Wow, that was unexpected (despite the public knowledge of the company's financial issues), but perhaps even more so that Xebec's being transferred under Sunrise's umbrella. For any subsidiary, such a move is pretty rare, as they tend to be shuttered, instead. It's a very gracious gesture for I.G Port to make, and if their animating talent is following, Sunrise might be inheriting some strong animators for their works, particularly on the mecha front.

*sigh* RIP Xebec. You produced some of the my absolute favorite shows of the last 23 years, and its always sad to see such a studio disappear.

On the plus side, Yamato now being in Sunrise's hands is probably the best the franchise can hope for. Staff turnovers are always common when transfers/buy outs like this happen; hopefully any such departures from the Yamato staff will be held to a minimum.

The only other question I have now is what is the status on Full Metal Panic season 5. Xebec was supposed to be handling that, but aside from some vague words when Invisible Victory ended, there hasn't been any word on when or even if an s5 will even be made. Hopefully Sunrise won't just cancel it out of hand; FMP should be a series right up their alley.

I fully "xebec-t" that there will be roles for them to fill somewhere.
