Why is Slam Dunk suddenly in the top 10? Thought it ended many years ago. That aside, it seems My Hero Academia has finally taken its place in the top 3. It was really only a matter of time.

My favourite on-going manga Kingdom is still going strong but sadly, its not really getting much attention overseas at least where I'm from. I'm also happy to see The Promised Never land at 8th. With the anime coming out, it's only going to get much higher.

Because Slam Dunk has the new cover editions that have been selling really well lately.

The reason Slam Dunk is in the top 10 is because Shueisha recently released new editions of the Slam Dunk with new covers and everything as part of their 50th anniversary

2017 here; 2016 here; 2015 here.

One Piece's steady decline continues, but with a steeper drop than usual. Still #1, but it's a much closer thing. The top titles as a whole seem to be declining (possibly the entire market), but not to the same extent; the sales figures for the #10 slot have only dropped 15% in three years. (I don't know what happened last year.)

^That's likely because it ended this year, and only had 3 new volumes release instead of the usual 4. A similar thing happened to cause One Piece's steep decline, since its 4th volume isn't coming out til next week and wasn't included for this fiscal year. Kinda says something about how big OP is that even at 75% it still beats everything else ="D

Does this mean One Piece might have a chance at getting 5 volumes in next years total. Instead of the usual 4.

That's because One Piece only released 3 volumes this year instead of 4. It's sales are as good as ever, and most likely sales are gonna bump because of the hype right now.

So OPM finally got pushed out of the top 10. Hopefully Season 2 will increase sales enough to make it, especially if the volume release rate increases (right now a year behind the chapters).

The decline might be everyone moving to Digital instead of Physical since I recall Oricon only does Physical

Well One Piece only released 3 volumes this year. One Piece would've easily sold over 10 mil from new volume sales alone, had it released 4 volumes. When you also take into account the volumes being released later than normal (meaning less time to sell) and the fact backlog sales increase whenever a new volume is released it would've sold around 10.5-11 mil. Yes, sales per volume and backlog sales are decreasing overall, but no more than it usually does. It's just that one less volume makes a huge difference for One Piece (given they all sell at least 2 mil) in terms of sales and schedule, which also compounds backlog sales (since backlog sales are higher when a new volume is released).

It's so easy to just look at the overall sales, but if you look at the individual volume sales, sales per volume, number of new volumes released (and when they were released) it paints a much clearer picture.

One Piece will likely sell around 10mil next year if it releases 4 volumes (which it should, given volume 91 is being released tomorrow).
