I'm definitely down to see this again. Hopefully it shows near my area.

Man... a lot of movies I want to see are all happening in January. Anime hyper
Sadly, as much as I want to see this, I'm not sure this is one I can convince my husband to sit through, even if it were to be shown in my area. While I love the manga and I know I'll love the movie, this isn't something he's really into (he's more into horror and action films, and this definitely isn't), so I don't want to force him to go see something and have him be bored through most of it. So I'll probably have to wait and see if it'll ever get a physical release here in the states, which I really hope it does.

Do it.

I hope it's in a theatre near me!

There's a fair chance of a physical disc release. They just haven't made it official. Perfect Blue (from another company) was recently announced for March next year and that screened a month or two ago but the announcement couldn't be made then because they might not have finalized the home video deal -- that's separate from theatrical screening.

If you read a few months ago, Eleven Arts has deals in place with The Right Stuf and Shout Factory to release their films on home video in the US. In these past two weeks, they just released "Here Comes Miss Modern, Part 1" from Eleven Arts on home video and that had a screening about 3 months back. If the pattern continues, they'll release the second part of that Duology "Here Comes Miss Modern, Part 2") probably in March-May next year.

I would think "A Silent Voice" will be out on home video by next summer.

The film has already been released on home video in Europe (UK). They're Region B/DVD Pal Region 2 so the disc isn't compatible with American players.

The US Blu ray releases get delayed because of Japanese home video sales concerns. They've lost thousands in units sales of discs in Japan (because of reverse importation from the US) when American and Japanese video releases were staggered too close together. That's why there's usually at least a 6-month if not year-long delay for the US releases AFTER the Japanese home video debut.

Tickets available here Smile https://www.fathomevents.com/events/a-silent-voice

I've still never seen this, not for any particular reason. For a while I was thinking I should read the manga first, but then a MAL friend said I should just watch it. So anyway... chansu.

I honestly doubt reverse importation has anything to do with the delayed NA home video release of the movie. It's been something like 18 months since it released on BD/DVD in Japan, and the fact that most US anime's Japanese audio is either unplayable on Japanese players, or have forced English subtitles negate any JP temptation of importing American versions. Your name, for example (a different licensor however), was released on US home video just 4 months after Japan.
I kind of believe the rumor going around that the delay is because of licensing difficulties regarding the opening song by The Who, though I have no evidence of this.
That being said, any dedicated-enough fan would have already bought the UK version by now along with either a european bluray player or an all-region one. Such a player is already rather useful for US fans in bypassing Aniplex titles, anyways.
