So, does BL go away from its classic shudo-style pairs image? Well, I think this is a good step towards greater realism.

Wait...isn't Rumspringa an Amish thing? Like, isn't it when an Amish young adult leaves for a year to see the world, and then has to decide whether he's gonna stay in the Amish community or leave to be part of the world? They made a BL out of that?
Wow. You can make a BL out of anything.

Yes, and as the article mentions it's specifically set in the US about an Amish lad. Needless to say, the actual Amish community would probably be annoyed the same way that they were with the movie Witness or with similar things. I don't particularly mind, but the sort of people who take cultural appropriation as a grave offense ought to disapprove I reckon.

A BL set among the Amish? Not weird at all. I actually once thought about writing a story like that! But I'm surprised someone else (in Japan, especially) came up with the same idea as well. Might have to check this one out!

I actually really like the artwork for that Rumspringa manga. Maybe I'll pick it up if it's ever translated...

Okay now I really want to read that Rumspringa manga, although the guy looks way older than an adolescent lol. I love how BL is venturing into oddly specific cultural settings lately, like in Liquor & Cigarette with the Spanish wine festival. That makes me really want one centered around Spanish tapas bars now...

Amish, huh. Different concept. I assume the artist did a lot of research.

I'm glad Saezuru and Color Recipe got in the list

Yabai indeed. Being a fujoshi is suffering. Random collection of thoughts I had reading the list:

“Oh geez, that one’s problematic... God, I love it though.”

“Not even Ogeretsu Tanaka’s best. Also, problematic.”

“Wow what an embarrassing hobby I have.”

“Oh cool an omegaverse title made the list! Dammit is that the one with the actual dogs?”

“I don’t even want to know what ‘100 and Swastika’ is.”*

Ok it doesn’t seem as bad as the title would suggest lol

I am rather surprised/amused by this. But then again maybe I should be so surprised since there is a whole sub-genre of Amish romance novels. This just seems like the next logical step, right?

Ahh yes, Hyaku to Manji is the Edo-period one where the ads in Animate had actual fabric fundoshi added to the posters~ It looks interesting, all authentic-Edo-period style.

Realism... eehhh no thanks. I hate seme-uke things (and omegaverse) , but I hate "realism" (short hair, cigarettes, and denim) too. Give me elaborate fantasy fashion and ultra-long hair, but do it without seme-uke crap and Omegaverse meta-gender, do it with no gender at all.

They're doing the Amish now because just doing m/m isn't taboo enough anymore.

There are probably more Omegaverse things on the list than just the one in the title. Omegaverse is huge, there's a whole Omegaverse section in Animate stores. Half the time, you pick something up because the cover is pretty, and you open it, and oh look, it's omegaverse.

This book also has series listed by "best seme" and "best uke", so... yeah.
