I like Yonezu's songs way more than his singing voice, so I keep finding good covers of them...

But wow, HypMic... wow!

Does Egoist count as 2D/2.5D? I feel like other 2D/2.5D artists should do openings for anime that aren't about them...

There was another chart about the top earning franchises, from Oricon, and it ranked books and DVDs, basically, but not CDs (or games or lives or merch), and the franchises on this list are exactly the ones conspicuously absent from that one - HypMic, EnStars, Bang Dream, UtaPri, A3. Fate and TouRabu are on both, and IM@S and Love Live are very low down on this list, but they were at the top of the other list.

Between CDs, books, DVDs, Comiket presence, Pixiv rankings, Twitter trends...? (Lives and merchandise obvioulsy can't be tracked in a way that you could compare franchises by) There doesn't seem to be any one way of tracking what the top anime franchise is. It actually really feels like the anime sphere is too diverse and too spread out for the concept of "most popular" to mean anything - what does that mean? With whom? There are too many different sorts of fans nowadays.

There are top movies rankings, but that's because they're tracking one thing - a movie, one movie at a time. "Anime" franchises aren't like that. They don't center on one anime, or one manga, or one novel series, or anything like that in some sort of uniform way. And even if you're comparing video games, like, how would you compare Touken Ranbu, Kingdom Hearts, Idolm@ster, and Pokemon? Those.. aren't comparable.

I'm not trying to reach a conclusion, just musing. It's interesting.
