Since it's original anime, I'll probably watch it, even though Oda Nobunaga has been done to death in media.

Done to death? Yes.
But has it ever been done well?
I'd like it to be a war drama that includes all of his life events but I dread it might end up being some slice of life cookie cutter hijinks show.
If he ages in the show then I have high hopes

Slice of life is my favorite genre, so while you might hate it I would personally be down with a chill Nobu show. Action and drama is fine as well.

I don't see what's wrong with more Nobu in anime, you guys know you can just not watch shows that don't interest you? Heck I have a feeling this will probably be a male character focused fan-service series, and that's not my cup of tea, but it's also not a big deal and someone else will likely get enjoyment out of the series.

If anything I find Nobunaga has been weirdly underutilized in anime. Sure, he has shown up in series, but not many over the years have centered on him. That has changed as of late, partially due to historical reexamination of him and seeing that he was a far more complicated figure than that "demon king" interpretation of him.

At any rate, having Abe direct interests me. Gonna have to get used to bishie Nobunaga though

Happened to see this on Twitter and was immediately interested by the art/character design. Very surprised to learn it was gonna be about Nobunaga.

I agree with Aiddon though. Nobunaga really hasn't been the center of a lot of anime, and for how popular the sengoku period was and he is, that's pretty weird.

Very eager to watch, but also really curious about how this will go.

I'd like to see a series where Oda is not either portrayed as some nefarious villain or a butt monkey. I dont have high hopes with this one, but you never know.

Like I said, it's mostly been because of how he was interpreted historically. Because of the "Dairokuten Maou" image that had been around for years, he was pretty much the go-to villain for the Sengoku Jidai. Recently that's begun to change due to historical reexamination of him, like the fact that many of his more controversial acts might have been exaggerated (like the razing of Mt. Hiei) or outright falsified (like the rumor that he turned the skulls of his enemies, including his own brother-in-law, into drinking vessels).

This vilification might have been because of him being kind of an eccentric and making some really bold decisions, like promoting people on merit instead of station (hello, Hideyoshi), taking a keen interest in Western culture, actually having a foreign vassal in Yasuke (a former slave), and generally just not caring for what were considered "traditional" values of the time. When you put that together, it's not hard to think that a lot of the casting of him as a villain was due to Sakoku Japan trying to reinforce its isolation and throw a bone to the Buddhist sects Nobunaga hated. It's like how Western scholars began to reexamine Julius Caesar not as a tyrant, but a more complicated figure who was still flawed, but at the same time brilliant and possibly decades ahead of his time.
