How is Jigen considered the strongest rival ever when Goemon and Zenigata are right there, hell throw Fujiko in there when she like Zenigata isn't being written in a certain way.

Ugh... what a dull premise. They literally just did the exact same thing with Fujiko. Look, guys, this franchise is a half century old. No one believes for one moment Jigen is going to actually "betray" Lupin. If you want to create stakes in a Lupin story, give Lupin a character to save or a mystery to solve. Putting Lupin himself in peril is never, never, never going to work.

I love Lupin and I really enjoyed Part 5, but this is too predictable. Jigen would never betray Lupin. This is clearly a ruse by Lupin to get close to the antagonist of the special. It would gave been better if they retold the first meeting between Lupin and Goemon. I liked the shirt rivalry between the two in part 1 and I wish it didn't end so soon.

Which time?

Fujiko turns on Lupin constantly. Sometimes a few times per feature.

"Betrayal is just another one of women's accessories. If I didn't understand such a thing I couldn't love women!" From the first ever episode of the first Lupin TV series.

Don't worry --
This TV special won't be licensed for years and you won't have to bitch about the home video release in the meantime!

More of us are upset with waiting for the embargo on the Japanese version of Lupin III Part IV to be lifted let alone waiting on a home video release of Part V which concluded earlier this year...

There's so much of this franchise that if you hate one project, move on -- there's plenty to like.
I've found VERY LITTLE Lupin that I actually hate beyond a BORING first TV series and a Part III which is easily the ugliest the Lupin characters have ever looked. The TV specials and most of the feature films have been entertaining where I'm concerned and the consistency in Lupin III anime is generally better than what you see in equally long (or longer-lived) LIVE-ACTION franchises like James Bond, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. Even Lupin III hasn't had as many abrupt peaks and valleys as those series!

Didn't he technically do this in episode 129 of the second series?
