I couldn't play the video so I just looked at the pics. I mean to me it just looks like a glider being pulled down a football field.

[OT]And why does my CPU go to like 60% when I load a Japanese website, I mean I have a 3.2 and breezes through everything except the JP sites. Confused [/]

On the website, it says that it has nothing to do with any manga or animation, that it is merely the website creator's wish to create a self propelled flying machine that can carry human beings.

This has nothing to do with Nausicaa.

Hm.. well, whatever their intentions, it certainly look's like Nausicaa's glider, and that was cool enough for me. Has anyone watched that movie and NOT wanted your own mehve??

No, I wanted one, to be sure. But I have to admit I secretly wanted a pet just like Teto even more. Wink

Aside from the fact that the "craft" in question looks amazingly similar to one IN an animation. With the exception of bent wings, I doubt anyone could call into question where the inspiration for this design came from. Especially when considered how difficult and hazerdous it is to fly on-top of the machine like in Nausicaa.

While the creation of the machine has nothing to do with Nausicaa, the machine itself IS from Nausicaa. (At least the overall concept and design.)

This has nothing to do with Nausicaa.

How long have you been following their project? Have you ever seen the picture of their earliest models with Nausicaa's cardboard figure on it?

They don't want to see being endorsed by Miyazaki-san or Studio Ghibli because in case of any accident the responsibility would be solely theirs.

if this is made for sale, then many anime fans will buy one, and many will cosplay Nausicaa while flying it, which i would LOVE to see.

this f***ing rocks!!! a totally new type of aircraft modeled after an anime. Miyazaki has to be totally flattered, no doubt about it. hell Studio Ghibli will be the first to buy one. This completely owns the dude who built the Akira bike.

So... This would make it "natural selection" for otaku cos-players? I can see the news-cast now:

"... dressed as a cartoon character, fell to their death earlier today aboard an experimental air-craft from an animated film."

But, aside from that, I would deffinatly have to get one. Anime smile See if I can survive Darwin's theory.

That's what "mehve" sounds like in German. It's actually German for "seagull", or "sea bird".

thats sad AND true. like that one dude who tried to go into space dressed as Char from gundam.

i just hope to God that no very smart uber-otaku tries to genetically engineer something out of an anime. It would be really cool in certain aspects, but most likely some corporation would make it into the ultimate, overpriced otaku cash cow, or whatever the animal is called. or they make a demon that can only be destroyed by a robot piloted by angsty, sexually confused frustrated adolecents........

Methinks it's better than playing golf in space. At least it doesn't create potential debris hazard.

Like that infamous anime-eyed baby? No, we won't do that.
