The whole game style abilities in the world is just strange! I mean the whole abilities and levels appear to the player in world is just a odd concept for world building. Though I do like the fantasy concept as a whole and the transported to a new world bit that most anime’s use.

Taking into account that the Japanese streaming began to display on December 27th, they are well behind schedule.

Considering that Zac and Jacob have been strongly implying on Twitter that they're preparing to do their best to destroy this series, it undoubtedly will.

I wonder how Rebecca feels since her reviews of the LNs tend to be in the mixed-to-positive range.

I just hope the brouhaha doesn't wind up sucking the dub VAs & crew into this or make them reluctant to promote the show and their involvement. Just let them do their jobs, please.

Well, we know how well that worked for shows in the past. Laughing Here's to a season of Shield Bro taking over America

Not even remotely unusual for this genre. Not an extremely common isekai setup to basically have a gamelike interface but it's still a sizeable portion. Even straight fantasy LNs with no otherworld shenanigans do it sometimes.

I wonder if people realize that going on and on about how problematic a show is...is only going to entice people to want to watch it more. The “no such thing as bad publicity” adage works regardless of political or social orientation, and if they do nothing but rant and rave about how much they hate Shield Hero, they’re gonna have more people watch it, and guarantee a second season of Shield Hero adventures.

I mean, look at the internet’s favorite punching bag, Sword Art Online. There are so many video essays and twitter rants about how awful the show is and if you like it you’re a bad person. It’s getting a freaking live action Netflix adaptation. If the intent was to scare people away, they failed, miserably.

I think they already know they are in the very vocal minority and are fighting a losing war. It doesn't matter how much they try to break this anime apart and try to show that is problematic and there are some offensive parts, and lets face it. Tate no Yuusha are going to look offensive for a few people in the English speaking fandom.

Most people love this kind of anime and making a fuss about the offensive parts only going to make Tate no Yuusha even more know and bring more people to watch it.

But if some reviewers take a issue with parts or even all the story, they have to be true to themselves and talk about it in the reviews.

This going to be controversy and i only hope people keep civil in the forums and respect the reviewers opinions, even if they don't agree with them.
Well my opinion of what makes good anime and is usually the opposite of most ANN staff.
Some of the most attacked anime on ANN is usually the most entertaining for me, like SAO, and Darling in the FranXX .

Can someone tell me what's problematic/"extremely out of the norm" for this upcoming series other than potential parallels to a false rape accusation attached to the male MC? In other words something that would spark a fierce twitter debate.

No. I mean, you're asking what the problem is other than the problem.

I've been tentatively looking forward to it, with most of my reservations being that I've been burned by recent adaptations of LNs I've enjoyed using the manga sources rather than the original LNs. I do think that there are some problems - the false rape accusation micah007 mentioned is one, but the use of slavery is definitely another, as well as some of the language Naofumi uses to discuss women later - but I largely think that the story holds its own in a crowded genre. For me the appeal of the story is the way Naofumi spoiler[sees himself as awful but he's really not - he's slow to trust after what happened, but he's still ultimately a better "hero" than the other guys because he really thinks about what needs to be done. Of course, this is because he's also the only one who doesn't see it as a game,] which I also find appealing.

Also, I love Raphtalia. I have no good reason for it. Smile

Anyway, I thought the preview episode did a good job adapting the story.
