That Boogiepop wa Warawanai show has my interest the most so far out of the ones that aired. It was a bit confusing but I'm sure the story will be more clear over time.
Some of the big hitters like Promised Neverland, Kaguya-sama, Mob Psycho 100 S2 are coming out next week so those should be fairly entertaining. |

I tend to like the GoHands visual overload style they've been pushing since K, but somehow it is simultaneously interesting and tedious. |

That's technically not part of the Winter 2019 season, so I'm assuming it won't be in the Preview Guide. Also, I don't know if we have anyone caught up enough on Saint Seiya to do something like that. |

Super bummed out after 1 ep of Boogiepop. Dump that info on my head! Dull-looking? Terrible writing? Check, check. I rolled my eyes 50+ times in only 20 min. My friends non-anime fans even more. Xp

OMG there's a sequel to hand-stackers!!!!! And it's a bout a twat who DJ?! I bet he skateboard too. I really can't tell if Gohand is intentionally going for so bad it's good.
Otherwise I'm excited for boogiepop, or rather I'm exited for boogiepop soundtrack cause the first one is amazing (doubt I'll watch the show, philosophical horror is about as far from my interest as possible). |

I was satisfied with both episodes of Boogiepop. An intriguing mystery, a little bit of non-linear storytelling, solid art design, excellent OP, and made me want more.
Although, I have to admit I've already seen Boogiepop Phantom, so I already know a little of what's going on already. Nagi Kirima is awesome, as always. |

The character designs in Boogiepop are so bland... Maybe it’s because I’m accustomed to the LN designs.
Other than that, I enjoyed the first two episodes. I understand that non-linear storytelling isn’t for everyone. |

Boogiepop was intriguing and I'm curious to see where it goes but it was definitely a bit of a tough watch for me. The multiple perspective shifts might sound interesting on paper but the lack of a clear protagonist and pov for the series made the whole presentation feel somewhat disjointed and confusing, which definitely wasn't helped by the slew of concepts and plot threads being thrown left and right alongside a myriad of names and characters that already feel too big and too shallow to keep proper track of. Thankfully on that last point it seems the show isn't averse to trimming its cast so I'm hoping the next episodes can be more focused and give us more of an emotional connection to the story they want to tell.
Also, it's impossible to be an anime fan and not be used to animation in 'threes', but that cop getting up and walking towards Boogiepop in ´sixs´ was more terrifying than any macabre imagery this show can conjure. There were some good shots here and there but I hope they aren't cutting frames to make deadlines right on the premiere. As for The Price of Smiles, as I'm not a fan of mecha fans I wasn't expecting to stick around past the premiere but the finale and the "sheltered aristocracy" angle they might be going for did just enough to get me to come back next week. Definitely one where we need to give it another episode or 2 to get a good grasp on the story. |

Concerning the bolded part: Not necessarily. You have to remember that this franchise does not use linear storytelling, so even characters who die in early episodes can still be actively involved and/or relevant for the rest of the series. Also, if one of your main criteria for enjoying a series is how deeply you get emotionally invested in characters then Others probably won't ever be to your tastes because it's never going to consistently - or even predominately - follow one viewpoint. I've often described Boogiepop Phantom as a jigsaw puzzle, where full understanding and appreciation of what's going on involves all of the pieces fitting together at the end, and that definitely looks like the direction that Others is headed in, too. |

So yeah, the reveal that W'z is a sequel to Hand Shakers is a little worrisome, mostly because I haven't seen Hand Shakers instead of the fact that Hand Shakers exists. But, seeing how Theron said watching the latter series wasn't absolutely necessary to enjoy/understand the former, on top of the whole DJ aesthetic appealing to me more than bile fascination at an extremely experimental direction style, I think I'm gonna watch W'z anyway and save Hand Shakers for when my soul is ready.

I went into W'Z blind, these thoughts occurred to me;
...Scene: A horrible gaudy aesthetic "This looks a bit like Hand Shakers,  "
...Some credits "Hmm.. that's the studio that did Hand Shakers" ...some thing about holding hands "Wait, a reference to Hand Shakers, hope that's all" ...Hand shakers characters appear "OH GOD, it's a sequel to Hand Shakers. OH GOD WHY" I'm going to have a keep eye out on things now. Who knows when a stealth sequel to ImoImo is going to slip into sight. |

Maybe there was a visual cue I missed but until I read your first impression I legit had no idea the narrative was non-linear to begin with so yes, I hadn't considered that yet. Considering the majority of the cast from the first episode doesn't even appear in the second, they could have afforded to be somewhat more overt with that. Emotional investment may be overstating it on my part but I think these 2 episodes suffered from a bit of "So who's the protagonist here?" syndrome. The OP centered heavily on Touka so first I assumed it was her and Boogeypop's story, but then the episode rolls in and I guess it's Takeda? Oh nevermind, now it's all about Kirima Nagi. Reading now that it's actually non-linear storytelling and they're going for a more ensemble cast experience that makes sense but again, that didn't come across as I was watching, maybe that was on me but that's how I walked away from it. But well, to be honest, ever since I started reading ANN you always seem to pick the same shows as me for favorites (yes even Beatless), so I think I can afford to keep an open mind on Boogeypop and Others if you recommend it.
