This looks great! So, how long do we have to wait for this?

The movie was shown at the International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, France, a few weeks ago. After seeing the trailer my hopes were set high and I expected to see something like Makoto Shinkai goes fantasy.

The movie starts good with an impressive scene on the moon and then goes well for the first third. There were some stereotypical characters that made me worry a bit but the good visuals make up for it.

Thats, unfortunately, when everything goes bad. The plot in the second half of the movie is simply stupid. Very stupid. So stupid, I can't really believe they didn't just scrap the second half and rewrote it in preproduction after some quality control.
The plot in the second half is extremely linear and basically consists of the main character running around. And then they finally got the brilliant idea of adding a moving volcano (if it's moving on legs, where's the lava comming from?) and a bothersome ending.
What really struck me as plain bad screenwriting is how distance is handled in the second part. People move like they just teleport from places to places and while everything seems to be far apart at first it somehow magically gets much closer towards the end.

I was really disappointed. Not really because the movie is bad but more because it has potential. The introduction is good and there is a lot that could have been made out of the basic story. The design of the world is great and I enjoyed the first part just seeing the world they live in. But that part gets dull in the second part, too. Sad
