I hope that when they dub this into English, they don't miss the point of the movie like the first dub did.

It went from, "The clones and originals have equal right to exist in the world and Mewtwo should stop having an inferiority complex he overcompensates for" to "Fighting is wrong in this franchise entirely about fighting!"

Woosh. Right over their heads.

I was hoping for more of an original take on the Mewtwo story than a straight up shot for shot remake and I'm not sure how I feel about this CGI animation style. I do agree that I hope they make the English dub more faithful to the original and include the Japanese music this time like they did with The Power of Us dub. It's probably a long shot but I also hope they can bring back Veronica Taylor, Eric Stuart, and Rachael Lillis for the dub. I could accept that they still used Ash's second VA for the I Choose You movie because it was in an AU canon and Brock and Misty weren't in the movie, but it just wouldn't feel right to not have at least the main characters' English voice actors back for a straight up remake. I also hope we can have the full Mewtwo's Origin story included this time as it is an important part of understanding Mewtwo's background.

I really don't know why this exists... I mean I do - it's money - but you know what I mean.
It doesn't look like it does much new to set it apart from the original and the look really isn't good enough to justify its existence. It's like some inferior clone that just seems off somehow and shouldn't exi-... wait...

But for real, though. I Choose You was a nostalgia trip too but that one still had some new ideas and, most importantly, set out to deliver something that looks amazing. It made me hopeful for the future of this rebooted movie series but the sequel, judging by the trailers at least since I haven't seen it yet, seems to have more CG and not as awesome 2D animation in it so I was already kinda meh about that (I still wanna see it though). But I bet it still has some nicely animated moments.
This, though... really doesn't look very appealing. The Pokemon themselves look okay (but really just okay) and so do the environments but when they showed the human characters it really didn't mesh well. Doesn't scream ambition to me in the same way that I Choose You did.

And I thought Detective Pikachu had bad CGI. Who asked for a CG reboot of Mewtwo Strikes Back? God please don't tell me the 8th gen anime is going to be CG too. I'll take back what I said about Sun & Moon looking terrible.

Can't wait to see the new dub ruin this one. Though at least they probably won't butcher the script like 4kids. I'll watch the Japanese dub regardless.

Edit: There's a good chance the three trainers that get to the island will keep their voice actors if they appear though.

Even though this appears to be a remake of the first Pokemon movie, I'd be very surprised if they don't find some way to add/sneak in an 8th gen pokemon.
I'm kinda meh on the CGI, but I guess it would be worse.

It's nice that Kasumi, and Takeshi are back; they appear very rarely these days.
Also, I just realized that I really love that outfit Joy had in first movie.

And speaking about dub, I watched first movie originally with Croatian voices, but it was actually really good (it had professional actors who did both series, and movies) back then, and I say that as someone who nowadays always prefer original voices in anything.

The thing about Pokemon anime that aired in Croatia in early 2000s was, that it wasn't translated directly from original (we had Candy Candy with japanese voices, and also Dragon Ball with subtitles on my native language, for instance) version, but from English dub; and only later would I find out that some things were changed, beside voice acting.

For years after seeing first Pokemon movie, I thought of Mew as good, reasonable, and peaceful legendary Pokemon, and even when you look at him, he just has that cute, good guy feel about him, he is designed in similar way to Celebi, or Jirachi.

I was quite surprised when I saw original Mew, when I rewatched movie few years ago with japanese voices; and how he seemed rather arrogant, and not so nice compared to his english dub self.

I am too proud to see Pokemon Remake in CGI, Ash look in CGI also nice, and glad to see Misty and Brock return in this film, since i haven't seen them in a very long time. 3D Films are getting pretty nice in Japan to this day, but not very much.

I am hoping if they can bring the old voice actors of Veronica Taylor, Rachel Lilles, and Eric Stuart, i haven't seen them in a very long time. I hope they can be good as it is.

I feel this to, the first film never came out to Serbia, but i know one thing is that Pokemon isn't very popular in Serbia, and only small handful of Pokemon anime and fewer films got dubbed in Serbia, i don't know why Serbians don't care about Pokemon, i wish if Pokemon we're shown more in Serbia.

(sorry for my poor English)

Sadly I don't think The Pokemon Company International cares...

IIRC there was a fan campaign to bring back Veronica Taylor for the "I Choose You" movie but all the fan support and requests were ignored.

If this movie is basically a shot for shot remake it's going to be even more insulting for nostalgic fans of the original dub cast to then hear Sarah Natochenny, Michele Knotz and Bill Rogers instead...

Only reason to watch the dub if this (likely) happens would be if TPTB brought back Jay Goede as Mewtwo seeing how the Japanese version has brought back Ichimura.

On the other hand Goede didn't reprise his role for Mewtwo Returns, so don't be surprised if it's Dan Green again even if Goede is available and interested.

Not only are we getting a new Pokemon game, but a remake of one of the best Pokemon movies of all time? This one was always one of my favorites, so it's safe to say I'm really, really excited

We're almost at the point where the TPCI cast has voiced the characters for twice the length that the 4Kids cast have. The TPCI cast are the definitive voices for the characters for the American dub and have been for just about 14 years. It's time for people to move on. And to be honest, if you're old enough to remember the 4Kids days then you're also old enough that that you should have switched to the uncut Japanese version a long time ago and have no real reason to continue watching a watered down dub for American children in the first place.

The length of time the original cast has been involved is irrelevant to that this is a remake of a movie that made millions of dollars and became a huge fan favorite through the voice acting talents of Veronica, Rachael, and Eric. Also Brock and Misty haven't been regulars in the show in all of those 14 years, so I do think it's a bit inaccurate to say Michele Knotz and Bill Rogers have been playing these characters longer than Eric and Rachael. But given the way TPCI still ignored Rachael and Eric with their Sun and Moon cameos even though both expressed an interest in returning, I don't expect that to change for this movie.

Where can I legally watch the subtitled version of Pokémon in the US? I'm genuinely curious here. The only stuff I've seen legally available is the dub.

It's nice hearing Unsho Ishizuka's voice one last time after he sadly died last August. And I hope that Japanese voice legend Koichi Yamadera returns as the voice of Mew.

As for the rest of the Pokemon anime, I am actually NOT CAUGHT UP because as an anime purist I will not watch a single episode of an anime without watching the original Japanese version first.

Would it be difficult to convince The Pokemon Company to stream the uncut Japanese episodes with English subtitles on Crunchyroll?

It would simply be just a test to see what reaction they will get from older anime fans able to afford Crunchyroll's online subscription service rather than taking a more expensive risk with home media which so far only has the dub because they can only market the anime directly to kids in that sense. The Pokemon Company is releasing Detective Pikachu with Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures which (like Crunchyroll) is owned by AT&T. Why can't they make it happen?
