Well, not anymore, the breaks are getting shorter and shorter. During his last mandatory health hiatus from December 2017 to April 2018, Aoyama stated that he will have to change his work schedule that he had for 30 years (the usual one of 20 hours of work and 3 hours of sleep per day and stuff), and that it might take some time for him to figure out how everything works now.

As such, the publishing breaks that he gets in which he can prepare the storyboards without a deadline pressure (yes, Aoyama works in these "breaks", he doesn't just have free time), have been getting smaller and smaller, while the case length has been a consistent 4-5 chapters per case.
