I always find stories like these to be interesting. It follows that whole "being in the right place at the right time". Or that "right moment".

Ah, I've heard of similar scenarios where singers purposely try to get sick so that they can have a 'huskier' sound due to the phlegm in their throat. Actually, the other day on American Idol one of the contestants confessed to eating chips before singing so that her throat would inflame (corn is inflammatory similar to gluten) to get that perfect sound. I can't say that's a reliable tactic or that it will get her far in her career but it's an interesting story.
